IMG_2158.jpg IMG_2160.jpg So..was driving in a white out. Went to take a slight turn, and she kept going straight . Ended up in a ditch with water in it . Passenger side half of my engine was submerged for around 11 hours.
I killed the engine as soon as I hit water. Pulled the air filter out after the tow yanked me out of the ditch and it had water on it but it wasn’t soaked, and the intake farther up from the box didn’t even look like it had any water in it.
Miracle no injuries and no property damage where it happened. Also no body damage at all.
I’ll upload photos, would like to hear opinions on weather or not the shop will be able to bring it back to life.
When we pulled it out there was an audible alarm being generated from fuse box area. Pretty loud. 3.4l v6 not super or turbo charged, r150f manual trans . Meticulously maintained for its entire life. She has been a great truck to me over the years

PS. I did not try to turn the engine over after we got it out of the ditch for fear of any water inside the intake being sucked into the engine. It was towed directly to the nearest shop.. I did insert the key to straighten the wheels as he pulled me out. And to get it out of 4h. All the dash lights came on normally , battery still had juice, but a loud audible alarm coming from engine compartment as I stated before. Thanks yall, hope the new year is better for you than me!

Wow, glad your OK. I guess if it was me I'd let it all dry out real well. Change oil just cause, pull some plugs you can get to and check out the cylinders as best I could for water or pull em all which entails removing plenum and blow out the cylinders by cranking motor. Your airbox intake tube was for sure under water. Hopefully everything works out for the best. Depending upon my bank account and ability. I myself would not pay a shop open check book to once over. I'm sure tow man hit you hard.

Yeah pull plugs crank, drain oil, fresh oil in and get it running asap and she will be fine. Do not let it sit for long non running rust will kill it.

The shop already has me pretty down, they had it for a full day and didn’t bring it into the shop to get it drying out.
But I didn’t yell at them they are inundated with work from a big snow that just happened around snow shoe West Virginia.

Anyone have any more info on what that audible alarm was that I was hearing? It was pretty loud and just a constant solid tone.

Good suggestions above. FWIW, I took water through the intake on my second gen, and actually caused the engine to stall. My air filter was soaking wet, and there was water in the airbox. I cranked it over without the plugs, blew the air compressor into the spark plug holes, and it fired right back up. I had one spark plug that was wet.

The electronics would be the bigger concern for me given how long it was in the water.

    Glad you are okay!

@Moonrman if I weren’t 9 hours from my home where it happened, it wouldn’t be in a shop at all.
If they come at me with a “it’s screwed but we know someone who’ll buy it , I’ll know it’s fixable and they are dishonest lol. Honestly kind of hoping for that call.

Good thing is the both fuse boxes were not under water but the ecm probably was. The interior is easy enough to completely strip out. If I were you and had a garbage with some basic tools and basic know how, you can easily remedy this yourself.

@treyus30 it had a frame replacement in 2017 or 18 . Arb bumper warn winch. It’s a brick outhouse of a truck!

Do not let them say its a loss, pull the spark plugs out crank the engine dry out the intake, and passenger side electrical and (air compressor works wonders) and see if it starts up.

If the shop can't do anything like NOW, have it towed home and do the above yourself.

A tow would be 9hours one way. I was on a fishing trip in Appalachia. I live in southern Illinois.

Ouch!! May be worth it if they can't get to your truck for a month. You don't want it sitting with water inside it. Maybe rent a u haul trailer and get it yourself. There is your cheapest option.
