I was at Kwik Trip earlier and I started talking to a guy with real nice looking orange Tacoma. It's set up with a bed rack with RTT and a roof rack with a storage box. I was telling him about our group and some of stuff we do. I told him to check out TW and look for us.
There, I feel good. I did my good deed for the year.

So what you're saying is another perfectly normal. Good citizen is going to be turned into a Wisconsin TW degen

I started with a nod, then he rolled his window down and complemented me on my truck.
That's happened quite a few times at gas stations. It's gotta be the truck.

But seriously. It is nice to get compliments on something that I did/built.

Definitely an ideal solution for winter car camping.

There was a thread on 4Runners awhile back where the OP was talking about letting the 4Runner idle all night for heat. :der:

This is another great way to get rid of some extra money. :D

As compared with the rest of this group? Or, as compared to normal people?

I've had this happen a few times as well!

One of my favorites was a guy in an older exotic car (I can't remember the specific type, just that it was red). I was gawking at his car while filling up, and he looks over and says something like "I like your car!" And, I say "I like your car!" and we BS'd for a few minutes while we were filling up.

I always think it's cool when people appreciate different types of vehicles. Most of the "car guys" I know like all sorts of vehicles.

    Must be the bigger tires.
Me and my 32's don't get compliments. :( Someday.....

Those diesel heater look kind of nice.
They don't need to be vented, huh?
I was looking at it a little. Looks like that aluminum core gets heated by the fuel and the heat comes off the core and not like a direct flame. Vent tubing was listed as a item usually bought with it.

Oh there will be some mods all right
I have had really bad luck when complimenting people on their vehicle. They are usually rude and respond with "yeah" or "I know."

Diesel heater cause of fire in Watertown

      • Jan 3, 2025 Updated Jan 3, 2025

WATERTOWN, Wis. (WKOW) — A diesel heater was the cause of a fire in Watertown on Friday, according to the Watertown Fire Department.
Firefighters were called at 9:57 a.m. for a structure fire on North Warren Street.
The first arriving crew was on scene at 10 a.m., where flames and heavy smoke were showing from the garage and eves of the home, according to a press release.
Crews were able to gain access to both the garage and living area of the home to put out the fire.
One person, the caller, was outside of the home upon arrival. They escaped with a minor injury.
By 11 a.m., overhaul was completed with no active fire was present in void spaces.
The scene was secured and handed over to the fire investigator and police at 12:20 p.m.
The cause of the fire was determined to be from a diesel heater located within the garage.
The American Red Cross and Watertown’s local Volunteer Emergency Response Team were called to assist the homeowner.
During this event, companies staffing the Watertown Fire Department responded to two additional EMS calls, according to the release.

The exhaust has to be vented on a diesel heater. They work amazingly well, one heats my big trailer fine in pretty much any temperature for winter camping. No humidity buildup like you get with a propane heater either.

I’d assume that the diesel heater they are referring to is an open flame torpedo style diesel heater. No way you’re starting a fire with a Chinese diesel heater unless you vent the exhaust directly at kindling.

Exactly what I was thinking, those can be spooky. The Webasto-style, like you have in your trailer can start a fire, but that would be a very rare occurrence...that is unless you put the exhaust up against something flammable.

What they don't mention or show in pictures, is that there is an exhaust pipe (and usually a small muffler). The exhaust in the picture of the unit in your post is right above the 14.96" dimension. They get very hot and the exhaust smells like diesel (go figure).

I recently looked at what Jeff Bezos offers, but can't convince myself I need. I know, I know...WTF does need have to do with anything.

Got a few northern on the ice today, but nothing huge and no pan fish. It was 4° when we started, but not very windy, so it was tolerable. Fun day!

    Excellent!

    I agree, 4° isn't bad if there's no wind.
