Apparently nobody complaining with the 2024+ Tacoma engine has ever bothered to actually look at the Lexus or Highlander forums where there's zero complaints about the engines reliability. The engine has been around now for four years (MY 2021+) in many different vehicles. There's maybe 350,000+ of these engines in use currently between the Lexus NX/RX/TX350, Highlander, Crown, Land Crusier, Prado, Tacoma models. Soon to be 4Runner.

Before that the predecessor to this engine was in a number of Lexus models, the 8AR-FTS. The T24A simplified a lot of the complexities and oddities in the 8AR but kept the nice things that worked.

I guess if four years of real-world data is not enough...it never will be enough.

A certain proportion of people don’t want the new truck to be good. The reasons for that are open for interpretation, but they’re mostly insecurities

Yea, but how many have exceeded 90k? :D

Which is the OPs predicted threshold of bailing out safely, meaning he likely thinks things will start to come unglued around 110 to 120

OR: Why not just go ahead and cut bait and bail-out/trade/sell within 1,000 miles or 30 days of when or whatever is left on whatever factory warranty remains? If you don't want the hassle, avoid all risk and just dump the truck at the unsuspecting dealer as a trade by the 45,000 mark towards a new one.

    Everybody wins.

Or since there is so much love for the truck (his words) add on an extended warranty and use the same preemptive move.

Even better. That way it can implode as many times as it wants before or after 90k and take the transmission with it too, and you're covered. Prob will get a complimentary rental for your trouble too: maybe a Land Cruiser. Winner-Winner, Lobstah Dinner. :proposetoast:

I have a 2022, but I still got a 10 year/100K miles warranty for it from Jerry. Too many electronic gizmos not to get it.

Yes, but that’s only one year in Tacoma years for anti-turbo power people.

Jumping on the animal photo part of the thread. No dog, but here's a kitten I found wandering around in front of the Mandalay Bay Casino a few weeks ago looking much healthier than when I found him. His name is Oswald.

When you ask how diesels last so long with turbos, they always say “diesels are built for it!”

as if gas vehicles cannot be “built for it.”

fuck it, the 4g is so much better than previous trucks that the slight risk of a problem isn’t an issue for me. $900 extends the warranty and repairs in a decade don’t scare me. Driving a great truck is worth it

I forgot about diesels, but yeah, the pro-diesel crowd is somehow also anti-turbo, while ignoring the fact that modern diesels in the US are incredibly complex and expensive to maintain (due to all of the emissions crap to make them sellable).

There are also some turbo-four naysayers, who turn around and suggest a Ford Ecoboost as a reasonable alternative, those are also real headscratchers.
