Never been to Tower Hill either, but it's looking like it's not open over the winter. Says open seasonally on the site and it doesn't look like the sites are available when you go to book them.

Tower Hill is pretty awesome, when it’s open.

Yes, Castle mound. When I reserved site 6 I saw that 5 and 7 were taken so I can assume it's only us TW crazy's booking sites.

Usually in the off season it’s first come first serve and there’s no reservations.

Another option between BRF and Wyalusing would be Wildcat Mountain. Looks like they have some sites available. I'm just not sure how far we can expect to get, especially if it turns into another Ice Road truckers incident. :D

I guess I didn't check if it was open.

    Yup!

    :woot:

Between you, Dean and I, we have room for a pretty good crew!

Now we just need to choose a destination for Saturday night.

    :hattip:

Apparently some Wisconsin State Parks are reservable even when only crazy people would go camping.

OK, what does everyone think about doing Wildcat Mountain on Saturday (2/1)?

Looks like it's right along the trail. And, I've never been there and have it noted as a place to check out some time.

Edit: I guess it doesn't look all that far from BRF. I guess if we want to go further Wyalusing would make more sense.

    Hmmm...

    Edit/edit:

Looks like it would be 50-60 miles of trail from Castle Mound to Wildcat Mountain.

It's probably around 100-125 miles of trail from Castle Mound to Wyalusing.

I don't remember how far we generally get on the winter runs. Just some information for reference.

It kinda depends upon how thick the ice is.

Are these routes you speak of embedded in memory or do you have a marked route somewhere?

Was wondering if you'd be willing to share the route, so I can see how far you hooligans are headed.

You're already heading away from E.C. lol.

Edit: If my son and I decide to join the convoy Saturday morning. It'd be nice to see if there was a decent break-off point.

It's the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail (yes, the TWAT). I have it on GAIA, but not sure how to share. One of the more computer literate types can probably help.

Here is a screenshot of the map. Probably not super helpful but it will give you a general idea of where we're going to be.

    That'll work. Thanks!

I thought TWAT was for T.W....something.

I have never camped at Wildcat mountain. We could certainly plan for there and either check out the hiking trails if we get there early. Or head north on the TWAT from BRF and double back if it starts getting late.

Unless we want to experience the Iowa side in winter. That might be fun/scary. In that case Wyalusing would be a better choice.

yellow river is pretty nice (walk up only this time of the year) - we usually stay at little paint campground
the TWAT goes right by the entrance to the campground

there's even some water crossings for the adventurous ones of the group.
