Got at least a foot of snow here from that big storm, sucks to shovel cause the top inch is frozen solid. Level 3 emergency making it illegal to drive unless an emergency.

 

We've only got a few inches, but I'm gonna use the snowblower anyway because I'm lazy and I really love using the snowblower!

 

I'm in the house taking a little break from shoveling, have fun with the snowblower!!!

 

I added fuel stabilizer at the end of the 2022-2023 season, but it didn’t work worth a damn. The snowblower would not start, and I ended up having to siphon it; Amanda and I were able to get it running last year after taking out the spark plug and spraying starter fluid. We had to do this like three times before it started on its own.

In either March or April of 2024, I let it run until all the gas was gone and parked it for the year; I put some fresh 93 in it yesterday, and it started on the first try!

 

Nice, gas is definitely crap today, l try to use the stabilizer too which seems to help for short periods.

 

And I thought you had a snowblower...

Meyer makes something called the "Home Plow" for numerous SUVs and light trucks, including the Tacoma! On a property like yours, that would be worth the money in my opinion! However, I've been told that trucks with three pedals are not particularly well-suited to snowplow duties. I've also talked to experienced snowplow drivers who tell me that a locking rear diff in a pickup or SUV being used for snowplow duties can be detrimental. Something about a locking/posi/LSD rear causing the truck to fishtail...? Make sense to me, but I think it might be different in your truck because you have a pushbutton locking diff. For example, GM trucks for the last 50+ plus years have had an automatic locking rear diff as opposed to one that can be switched on and off as needed...

 

I have a gravel driveway so always figured a snowblower would tear it up. Wouldn't mind picking up a little 4 wheeler and putting a mini snow-blade on it. I think you are right about GM having a mechanical locker, was like an Eaton 80 or something.

 

G80 was the code for a posi rear, whether it was a limited-slip or a locker; I don’t think there’s been a legit true posi since the 1970s. I believe that, for example, a 1987 Buick Grand National would have just had a limited-slip rear. By comparison, a Chevy S10 of the same era would have an automatic locking rear. Apparently, the Chevelle SS and Oldsmobile 442 came standard with an open rear; I have NEVER personally seen either of those vehicles without one, but I saw a YouTube video of a 442 with an open rear…

Shoveled snow all day, came inside cold and wet and naturally the electricity went out. Time to drag the generator outside and get it going, glad I fixed it recently.

I’ve had my truck for more than 15 years and almost 212K miles, and it’s never leaked oil; I moved my truck and mom’s Nissan to clear the driveway, and when I moved the truck back, I saw this stain. I checked the oil and looked underneath for any obvious signs of a leak, finding nothing…

 

As stated above, my truck has never leaked oil. It burns oil between oil changes at a rate of roughly a little over a quart every 3,500-4,500 miles; I pulled the truck straight forward to clear the snow, and then reversed it straight back when I was done. The oil spot clearly does not line up with where oil would be coming from, and I believe this is refrigerant oil from a refrigerator that I scrapped several months ago, seeping back up to the service as a result of the wet conditions…

 

What fuel were you running it on when you added the stabilizer?

I always buy 93 octane for my machines, learned the hard way. When I go to store them for the offseason, I run/siphon them dry. Then take my empty 5 gallon can, add stabilizer, pump the 93 octane, and fill the machine. Run it for 10 minutes, shut off, store.

 

I have no idea about the lawnmowers we used to have, but my dad and I have used anything but 93 in any of the snowblowers we’ve had…

 

Even lawnmowers is one thing whilst in season b/c you know it's getting regular use, not so much with snow stuff. Try my method, it hasn't failed me yet.

Doug's dad is almost 77 and has been experiencing memory issues over the last year and a half. It has recently been decided that he should no longer be driving, and Doug has been driving his dad's RAV4 occasionally (Doug says it's a 2013, but I believe it's a 2014; either way, it's newer than the Altima); Doug still does DoorDash as a side hustle and has gotten the Altima stuck twice. The RAV4 has AWD. So, it looks like Doug and his parents might be willing to sell the Altima to Amanda. It has 180K miles, but it has a clean title and everything works. It also has a factory backup camera and a decent stereo system, so that would save some money and time. My hope is that Amanda will have enough to buy the car outright by this spring, but Doug thinks his parents would be okay with Amanda paying in installments. KBB private party value is like $4,400 and trade-in is like $2,100; I have known Doug and his family for about 16 years, and I think that I can make a deal for $2,500-$3,000. My concern is that the CVT could shit the bed before 200K, but the car is in good condition otherwise and I do not see why it wouldn't last Amanda a few years. It is A LOT newer than other vehicles we have been looking at.

 

Nissan CVT with 180k miles. I guess if the price is right, but you’re asking for trouble.
