Yes this is a rabbit hole for sure . I ended up doing my whole system . Pioneer radio , amp with sub behind rear passenger seat , separates up front and coax in back doors. No regrets at all. It was really not terrible to do and sooooo worth it . But do your home work . Trail grid pro has some great plug and play stuff that you can install pretty easily. It all comes down to how far you want to go . A higher power radio will get you more sound , then with more power better speakers will shine, then add amp with a sub and it will get better ….. and down the hole you go lol

I have/had the oem jbl amp. Its since been replaced with a couple 4x90 class D Amazon amps. Using the rockford dsr to remove the oem amp, and give line outs.one amp running the 4 door speakers, another in bridged 2 chan mode running a dvc kicker woofer in the oem sub.
It works very well, tho i am going to update the door speakers shortly.
Its been running flawlessly for about 3 months.(Tho i have the rear door gains lowered due to those pitiful excuse for speakers in them)

I know the OP was asking about speakers, but I figured I'd post an update on the BeatSonic Encore amp as it works for both JBL and non-JBL trucks.

I installed the Beat-Sonic Encore Alpha amp (model#: ENA-2T3) yesterday in my truck with factory JBL. I was skeptical that it would have much of an impact on-top of the factory JBL system, but the difference is very noticeable in my truck. All of the speakers play louder with more clarity, including the factory subwoofer. The 6x9 front door speakers and sub now hit pretty hard for a factory system, and the dash speakers are much more in-your-face with added detail that was lacking before the Beat-Sonic install.

I still think the factory JBL speakers should be upgraded at some point, as they've always sounded a little "muddy" to me... But overall, I'm very happy with the BeatSonic Encore amp and can definitely recommend it for JBL equipped trucks. My guess is that the BeatSonic amp may have a more noticeable impact on JBL trucks since the JBL amp is now receiving a better/cleaner signal to drive the factory speakers and sub.

In my 2010 trd sport when I had it the factory non jbl system was horrendous.
I had a pioneer DVD head unit put in with a ln 8" kicker hide away sub and polk from components.
I had the access cab body and why for the life of me toyota decided to put the rear speakers up behind the headliner made absolutely no sense at all to me when the rear access cab doors had punch outs for speaker locations so I just left rears disconnected.
In my 2023 trd offroad I have now I have tbe jbl system and it's decent/ok but I'm definitely in time when I can afford to looking to upgrade as I go and want wireless android auto.

    Non JBL guy here.

Started by doing the subaru tweeters and the Kicker CS speakers everywhere. Nice upgrade.

Got bored a few months down the road and did the Kicker Key amp. Again, another nice upgrade.

Got bored a few months further down the road, did Taco Tunes speaker mounts (by far the best out there) and Kicker KS speakers with DS18 tweeters. Killer setup for the money, wish I had done it from the beginning.

Truck has some cheap Noico sound deadening in the doors and back wall.

Trailgrid pro has a nice kicker speaker bundle. Their Sony radio kits are nice too.

I've got the JL Stealthbox, Key 500.1, Key 200.4, Focal RSE-165, RCX-165 and second skin damplifier 2mm pro on the inner doors and back cab wall. Sounds awesome, but I want CarPlay. Thinking about ordering the Sony 9500es next.

Dammmmit. You got me looking into it again. I’ve got the ks in the front (tweeter and 6x9) and somehow the cs in the rear. At least the nice ones are up front. Now I’m looking at the compact subs….

CarPlay is nice. And I need to do some sound deadening.

Second skin is a little pricey, but very nice quality and easy to work with.

Fortunately my debit card got jacked the other day and I haven’t had the chance to pick up a new one. I was looking at a kit pre cut for the doors.

I prefer to cut my own. I bought 2 boxes from Amazon a few years back. I forget how many sheets were in each one.

minor, TRD skid plate, front recovery points, Regken mud flaps, rear diff breather, AC drain pipe extended. Upgraded sound with active sub woofer, tonneau cover, CB radio.
Stock HU (non JBL Entune2 premium plus). ALL speakers (incl tweetters) replaced with JL audio; powered Kenwood compact sub added (under drivers seat)+Kenwood amp KAC 8405 under passenger seat. What to say? Good sound, REALLY works for me!
(I also did sound proofing of the back wall /floor of my AC.)
P.S./Edit/ Almost forgot to add: stock speakers are garbage!

Not to hijack this thread, but I just watched the hour long install video from Trail Grid on the Alpine amp and sub kit that I saw in here. I may need to investigate this further.
