Just got the wife a new car and I’m jealous of her Apple Car play. It’s time to start modding my stock 2013 Prerunner.

I have the non-jbl touch screen stock radio and no backup camera, although I’d love to add one.

Looking into head units I have seen Joying and Phoenix Auto as options.

There seems to be some discussion on Joying here, but I haven’t really seen any reviews on Phoenix Auto. I’m also wondering how these hold up long term, since most of the discussion I have seen is from people who recently purchased.

If anyone has a magical 3rd option that they love I would be happy to hear about it too.

I'm in the same boat as you. I've been searching for new head units. Wasn't sure what route I'd should go.

I installed a PLZ 902W headunit in my '09 back in January of 2024. I did not want my dashboard to look like a Tesla, and I wanted a unit with a volume knob. I also wanted a unit that would work with the steering wheel controls. One year later, I still LOVE it.

Look at my older posts for info on an updated PLZ unit that has a QLED screen.

The cost of the install, including the headunit, bezel and plug & play harnesseS (there are three) is <$200.

I had initially planned to paint the Scoche bezel with aluminum (color) paint, but I decided that I like the flat black better. The Scoche dash kit has 3 plastic pieces:
    • radio bezel
    • left bracket
    • right bracket
I did not use the plastic brackets, but used the OEM steel brackets.
The radio bezel is pretty self explanatory.
You must remove the yellow clips and the Hazard Switch / clock / airbag indicator assembly from your OEM bezel, and reuse them in the Metra bezel.

Here are some pictures of my installation;[IMG] [IMG]

Is that the 7" or 9" unit?

Joying offers models with a real volume knob. I had an older Joying for several years and broke it doing dumb stuff. I liked it enough to replace it with the updated equivalent model.

Great units - good screen, decent UI, excellent fitment without having to buy trim rings/mount kits/etc. Mounts solidly with no rattle, even with a switchbox stuck onto the top of the bezel.

If you want to just plug and play, they're fine. If you like to tinker with settings, they're surprisingly full featured.
