Has anyone found and installed a 2nd oil filter onto their oil filtration system? Where did you find it?

    Tia.

i do not see the need. if one filter is clogged enough, that means flow is too low to operate normally. just do 5k oil changes, and for the love of god do not use FRAM filters. they suck ass.

If you want to modify your system, add an external oil cooler for increased oil capacity.

I got a case of OEM toyota filters on deck.

I got OR version, it has oil cooler, I could fit a larger one in there i suppose.

I recently watched a video of an eighteen wheel truck driver who had 890k+ miles on his engine, because he had a double oil filtration system installed from day one. It seems like a good idea.

On my 2009 I am running the Amsoil universal dual remote bypass. The full flow filter filters down to 20 microns and the bypass filter takes 10 percent of the oil and filters it down to 2 microns.

Just get Toyota OEM filters from Toyota shop itself, it comes with O ring and all.

As far as FRAM goes, it is most widely used common oil filter perhaps but OEM Toyota filter beats any after market. Trust me its worth the few bucks more, in long run these things matter. Good oil & oil filter.

When I got my first truck, it had 192K miles or something, I changed air filter and installed OEM filter and premium oil. The MPG jumped on 20 year old truck from 13 to 18, that's how much difference it made for the engine.

As a heavy duty tech, it’s not uncommon to see an over the road truck run over a million miles+

The maintenance even states to do 5K oil changes if you experience traffic or dirt roads. But yes the people who drive long distances as high speeds don't really need 5K oil change, because engine is running smoothly..

The idling & traffic is what makes 10K oil change dangerous.

    Why?

Did he get 890k+ on the truck because of the extra filter or because the design target for the diesel in the truck is 1 million miles per overhaul?

Maybe I'll start towing a Corolla so that if my Toyota breaks down I have a back up or even still put a Japanese motorcycle in the bed of my Tacoma and also tow a Corolla so that I have 2 back ups. ;)

Maybe due to the 'highway miles' effect? And less stop and go?

He credited the double filtration system that he installed, from day one, as what gave him the 890k miles. On the disassembly and inspection of crankshaft journals and lifter bearings, they did show to the camera a wear channel on some parts which ultimately caused the failure of the engine.

I don't know enough about the specific truck and engine to answer this question.

An OTR truck's engine lasts a lot longer for more reasons than an extra oil filter.
As mentioned, just change frequently (whatever that interval is to your use).

Is he an expert in engine design and maintenance, and did he show a comparison between his truck and an identical model, with identical operating conditions, but only the OEM filtration system?

I think I know the answer...

Be mindful of what YouTube tries to teach you.

If you install a second inline filter, you're going to reduce your effective oil pressure getting to the parts of the engine that need lubrication, so this actually could cause some harm. Especially if you want to go with some smaller pore size for some reason.

If you're worried about it, follow the severe duty maintenance intervals that others have already mentioned (5k oil changes). Otherwise, the truck will probably be fine, for the much fewer than 890k you're likely to put on it.

Double oil filter is about the same usefulness as a double air filter.......
I would add a catch can before a second oil filter, and that's saying something.

    :duh:

You should also install a K&N filter because they're so much better...

I believe that. You do know that diesel engines are different than gasoline engines, right?
Most OTR trucks go a million miles easily between rebuilds with standard stock oil filters

I highly recommend a old school Frantz filter that uses a roll of toilet paper. You will get about a million more miles out of your motor.
