First night with the new heat pump instead of the old propane furnace. I can't say that there is any real difference in heat and we didn't need to turn on the "emergency" heat strips in the system.

Considering the cost of propane versus electricity down here, I think it's at worst a wash.

It will likely get better once we get the big picture window in my office replaced. Last winter that was the "cold" room in the house. Of course it will likely be late February or early March before they are built and ready to install. Small, local company with a reputation for really good service. No hard sell and their quote is $5,000.00 less than Anderson for half the number of windows.

Didn’t seem like I would need to completely fill with foam. I’ll defer the expertise to others here though haha

If I bought new or knew a stove's history, I'd go with a Harman. If I bought used again, I'd probably lean Quad because there are fewer points of failure and I've had two so I know exactly how they work and how to fix them. I have a friend with an old Harman and his issues have been with things my Quad doesn't even have - like an exhaust probe sensor.

I do have to buy decent pellets for mine. Cheap ones fill the burn pot with ash way too quickly. This year I have Vermont Pellets, last year I used Wood & Sons. I've also burned Lauzon and they were surprisingly good for a hardwood. I've found I can't burn stuff that's sold at a large chain, but pretty much anything from a stove dealer or smaller independent lumber company is fine.

Northern Warmth Supreme Douglas Fir pellets are by far the best I've ever used, but they're stupid money so I've never spent the money on a ton or more.

Just curious, do pellet stoves have cats like woodstoves do?

All this talk of fireplaces and whatnot. We're piped NG, I am in the early stages of seeing if we can stuff a gas fireplace into the chimney with an insert and liner somehow. Haven't even talked to anyone about it, but there's a place in town that I think would know what's the what.

First the small decision if we move or not though :spy:

Nope, just a vent with an exhaust fan. For a freestanding stove, you can put a hole through the wall and direct vent with just a few feet of pipe. Mine is a liner up the chimney.

Mine would be a liner up the chimney as well.

No, but I found a Milwaukee M12 Fuel 3/8” battery ratchet and a Dewalt drill, along with about 40lbs of sockets and wrenches in the unopened trunk of our new Honda Del Sol! Free tools for the win!

My father in law always comments how we're in the middle of nowhere (I don't think it's that bad considering I can get a pizza delivered), but also always asks what our natural gas bill is. The closest gas line is several miles away.

Same, hoping for 10 more years

    NO MO MAYO

Free is for me. Found about $1200 of tools in a car I bought for $100 before. Especially since it was all stuff I needed and good quality but couldn't afford to buy.

The problem is when I first bought, I planned on 5-10 ish years and maybe 200k miles, so I was less than gentle....

Now I'm down to 10k/year miles, and am driving it to 500k+ so....WHOOPS. "Oh I don't care, I'll sell it at 200k as max!" was the thought way too much. This year is going back and un-doing some 'that'll do' mentality and doing it with the engineer brain in full control.

    :annoyed:

Like how I can't wait to be an owner of a 200 when they're 25-30 years old and in my price range lol

True, but with my situation I drive less than 10K a year. Even at 145K I've taken care of it and having been reframed as well helps. Regardless I don't see myself parting with it until it's no longer feasible to keep it moneywise, since my needs aren't changing.

Just ordered the anytime front/rear camera kit with premium camera.
I figured while I have the dash/radio taken apart it will be so much easier to install it now.
I wanted to wait but everything's apart, so...
