L Series units. Kinda suck, but better than Carrier/Bryant of equivalent years IMO.

Might be different from this, but close. I think the ones pictured are older as they are more grey than beige, but I don't know exact changes made during the run.

They suck because of build quality, reliability, serviceability, or a combination of the three?

The brand new Carrier 1.5-ton heat pump running in the snow; I couldn’t tell if it was frozen or if that was just snow that had blown into the outdoor coil…

I would personally never set any central heating system above 72°F, but Emily likes it warm. Considering how cold it was, this heat pump was performing quite well; it did not go into defrost, nor did the emergency heat engage. I think the system performed well because the condo is only like 950 square feet with two windowless interior walls, and it only has one exterior entry/exit, as opposed to it being a particularly well-performing heat pump. This is just a base model Carrier with of no more than 15 SEER…

Also, which one of you guys said you really liked the EcoBee thermostat?

    Probably me.
I put one in for my mother.
It never gave any issue. And she likes it a lot.

You can set alerts for too hot and too cold.
I put on in after the contactor got stuck and the house was 85 degrees.
Her poor dog was nearly cooked. That was it, off to get a smart stat.

Shit like this gives law-abiding scrappers like me a bad name. These units are located at the same shopping center where we ate at an Italian restaurant, a shopping center which has been largely vacant for years; I spotted the unit in the first pictures when we were leaving on the 30th, but it was dark and I didn’t see the other two. All three of the units are York commercial units from the 1980s or possibly the early 1990s; I was here almost 14 years ago exploring the HVAC equipment and I seem to remember that they were heat pumps. However, a lot of the buildings have gas meters.

If they were heat pumps, the reversing valves have been taken by the copper thieves. My guess would be that the compressors were no taken because they were two heavy to carry, or they didn’t have the tools to undo the bolts. If you look closely, you can see how cleanly cut the copper tubing on the compressors are. This is indicative of a reciprocating saw like mine being used…

Probably just sucking in blowing snow. A heat pump when low will freeze bands around it before freezing over. That looks too soft to be frozen from the pics.

I’m tempted; those compressors are worth a fortune and there’s still some copper!

Amanda routinely got into arguments with Emily when she lived with her, because she would run the damn heat in the summer!

Window fan is presently dormant because Amanda thought it was too cold, and window A/C is in fan mode…

Never owned a home with a split system.
Hope I never do. I don’t intend to own a 2 story home, or a home much over 1,200 sq/ft.
