At my local public range several years ago a group of us used to load cowboy loads for our lever action rifles and competitively shoot at 1/2" round dot labels at the 15 yard pistol range.

One of my local ranges holds 500 yard steel silhouette matches. Every now and then someone new shows up with something cheap and surprises everyone else with it. More so the Indian than the arrow as they say.

Either way, theoretically speaking a good 100 yard zero and accurate velocity data is all you need to hit the target at distance. I'm hesitant to agree that novices can't do it, because I've seen them do it. The ones that come in with a coachable attitude excel at it, the know-it-all newbs show up and are promptly put in their place and rarely return.

Random pic from the 600 yard line.

Agreed! A few buddies and I are co match directors and host our club's monthly NRL22 matches. We tell potential new shooters the same thing- they just need a magazine feed 22LR, a scope with turrets/reticle, data, and a willingness to learn. I can meet them in the week to help create or true data. The main thing is the willingness to listen and learn; if they have that, we have a great group that helps them through their first few matches, and they usually excel very quickly. The ones that don't listen or think their dope is good, often don't make it through the entire match or don't return to more. It's very rewarding to help new to the sport shooters actually use their real dope and read the wind,,, to make their own shots.

I source most of my Aero Parts either directly from Aero or Sportsman's Guide. I get a decent discount from both, but Aero take longer to ship

After waiting on hold on Aero's chat support for over 5 hours yesterday, they informed me that the buffer tube kit I ordered is on backorder and it will be a few more weeks before they receive the new stock back from anodizing, despite the fact that they showed in stock when I placed the order in November. Needless to say, I canceled the rest of my order and purchased the buffer kit from a different vendor. I think Aero is the best value for the money and will still buy their parts, but will only order directly from them as an absolute last resort.

I have a mix of a bunch of different stuff but like my Aero products I’ve never had any issues with them. Their shipping does suck if I order from them it takes at least 2 weeks. Ordering their stuff from another vendor usually ships way faster

This has been the case at every discipline I've taken part in, shooting or otherwise. But I'm thankful to the ones that show up at the NRL, USPSA, and Gasser precision matches I attend. I'm also beyond thankful to the "old-heads" that have tried to instill their knowledge into my brain and lent me their gear without hesitation long enough for the hobby to stick.

Speaking of purchasing, I'm needing a few bits and bobs ahead of a NVG match in March and a CQB class I'm taking in June.

I was seriously looking into getting a silencer in January but after doing the pricing and the cost of all the adapters and the added fact that I did not realize that I would also have to change some of my hand guards. I just said screw it. :annoyed:
I may still just get a .22 can for my Charger

I have the opposite problem. I have had bad luck with instructors, mostly in mandatory firearms classes that certain states require before you can even apply for a CCW.

I think I’ve told the story before but we were in a dimly lit room above a bar and the safety instructor was showing us how to properly clear a firearm.

He handed it to me and told me is it loaded or not so I proceeded to pull the slide back and lock it and look down the chamber and told him that it’s not loaded.

He then told me to put my finger in there, and I told him hell no I’m not putting my finger and having the slide snap down on my pinky, plus my fat fingers won’t fit in there anyway.

So he grabbed the gun from me, jammed his finger in there, and the slide snapped down on it and there was much blood.

I tried not to laugh but I think I did.

I think what really made me change my mind was having to change my hand guards out. I really like the way my AR's are set up now.
The Silencer for the .22 will be good for Armadillo season @ 2am

You have that many hand guards that end that close to the muzzle device threads?

Do you have blast cans or blast forward devices on them tucked under the hand guards? Is that the reason?
