Fire department is using our lot as a staging area for operations in the area and according to my boss the building is mostly unscathed save for a few broken windows. But the fire is still raging around the area

Dude it was fucking crazy last night. The wind gusts like that definitely explain why so many places further inland from the foothills got burned, huge embers getting launched and carried far away

Can it blow hard enough to put out the fire like it does a candle?

    @Speedytech7

Would you be able to assist in a small project?

An RC battery tray that I'd need 3D printed.

It's small at like 2 1/4" by 1 1/3" and less than half an inch tall.

I can do a 2D CAD to give you top view and side view dimensions, I just don't know how to turn it into a tray exactly for 3D printing.

Sure, just give me all the critical dimensions... interior L W H and wall thickness (keeping in mind that will go toward the outside so don't tell me thicker than what the space it is going in can accommodate haha) and any features you might want... like strap holes for a hold down or screw holes with countersinks or what have you

I'm self taught learning on red bull, hot pockets, and a kiddo on my lap :bananadead:

I'll watch a video somewhere to learn this part of it, I bet it's crazy easy I just don't know the command.

Would it work similar to slotting a 3D item? I use holes and slots in the sheet metal portion of Fusion 360 when I make a 3D item, creating flanges then turning them to a flat pattern for 2D plans.

Should be. I've never worked with sheet metal and flat patterns though so I'm not sure how that works. Also haven't used F360

But for just a cut slot in a 3D model, you should be able to brute force it with just a sketch drawn on the desired surface with the slot dimensions, and then use that sketch with a cut/extruded cut tool with a specified depth. Same for any other cut, like making a solid block into a tray.

If F360 has a hole tool or hole wizard, theres probably a slot tool in there too with standard sizes which is a smoother process, but should have the same result

Sheet metal and flanges are no issue for me

It's the "solid 3D object with weird slots" that is tricky

Here's my tray, but extruded as two separate items to provide the look

    Screenshot 2025-01-08 131354.png

Thing is, the top and bottom walls (the long side) needs a notch removed from the bottom to provide clearance for the rear shock towers.

    Hmmm...

The experiment here is that I find my RC to be much more predictable when relocating the battery to the rear between the frame rails.

This is a mod I've never seen done on this specific RC and I think a few people might actually be interested in the setup. You'll just have to remove the body to get to the battery which will suck for those that don't have a magnet body mount like I do.

Just tell me where the notch needs to begin and end and depth/angle for it

I dont think I did what you're looking for, but the workflow should be the same as what you're trying to do
Might be different for 3D print models tho?

    If it resorts to that!

It's better I learn how to do this the right way.

Yeah no I don't have anything like that.

Commands are way different. Fusion is different in that there are different commands but to use them appropriately, you have to be in the right "function" tab.

    I'll figure it out.

    No you don't.

    Solidworks is the standard.

I have access to Solidworks (veteran deal, but it's only per year) and the reason why I stick to Fusion is because it's got a free cloud, and I use it for CAM as well.

Solidworks CAM is confusing, I always used Gibbs

But for 3D mechanical design, solidworks is exceptional

Its the standard, but 360 is still quite popular especially among small businesses. I interviewed with a couple places out of college that used it
Professional SW licenses are real pricey..

We just went through a similar thing with our FEA software at work, almost gave up our industry standard FEA software license with ANSYS due to the insane contract renewal cost. My seat on that contract rivals my damn salary.

I would just feel better if I knew the 2nd tier software packages as well, in case of contract disputes or a job hop.

Caffeine and nicotine are the minimum for sure. Most forms accepted here lol. Usually coffee but an og sugar free monster also goes over well lol

not too hard to jump between SW and Fusion once you're proficient with one. the worst part is remembering where all the fucking tools are since they're in different menus or named differently lol
