They're not really supposed to go that fast in the first place. Dude was full beans on the burner and still losing altitude, too.

@eon_blue what the hell? That sunset fire seems real sus, too far to be a spot fire it seems. Kinda spooked when I saw that as it's about a mile from my brother. How far are you from the nearest blaze?

Few hours ago he told us they had prepped the vehicles and such in the event they had to evacuate.

Winds started blowing their way this evening so of course, hoping for the best. Good thing is his sister doesn't live too far so they have somewhere to get to.

Of course he'll chime in with the latest.

In hindsight, that that pentalobe screw on my iac might have been a sign that its not meant to be removed. Whoops...

So what was it you were trying to do to the IAC anyway? I never had much luck messing with them, the thermal spring ends up messing with me instead.

Just getting it all apart for cleaning. Its had issues starting that seem to get better by stepping on the gas.

I have a new one in the mail but its super delayed and i want the taco back in action.

We are good, the Eaton Fire is the one nearest to us. It’s spread east and west with the winds, prompting evacuations in the town next to us but as of last night seems to have stopped there. Winds died way down. Also the previous big fire in 2020 that nearly got to our old house left a big burn scar on the mountains that stopped it from coming more our way. So unless there’s another big wind event in this area I don’t see it getting worse for us

So many neighborhoods in Altadena and LA in general are completely leveled though. One of my old college teachers posted this of his house

yeah the sunset one does seem suspicious because it started later in the day after the winds died down. The Hollywood Hills are pretty mountainous with a lot of wildlife and wilderness despite how surrounded by urban sprawl they are, so it might be natural. But Unfortunately I wouldn’t be surprised if it was arson, when stuff like this starts happening it brings out the whackos.

Man, I’ve been having the same problem recently! It’ll fire up then die right away unless I give it a little gas. If I don’t, it’ll die but start the second time, no problemo. Is that what’s been happening with yours?

The pictures of the sunset one my brother sent were pretty intense. But I was watching the air traffic and damn they pulled off the other fires to attack that one like crazy. And it seems like they were able to keep it from exploding. I'm actually impressed that they were able to limit the expansion of the fires as much as they did. Going to be interesting the fall out from this event, that's for sure.

Good to hear you're safe! So intense seeing it unfold. Close friend had to leave Pasadena yesterday. She's in Victorville right now waiting to see what happens. I saw that the winds should keep subsiding and they can get aircraft in more easily to douse which is awesome.

sixth year wildland jerkoff here. Nothing quite like choking smoke while cutting line then looking up at a couple DC-10s laying down the red cancer and letting you get to bed early that night. Love a good airshow man.I’m hoping incident command is able to make some sound tactical decisions in the coming days.
