Back around 1990 or maybe 1991, up in northern California, we had the Oakland Hills Fire. I don't recall now how many homes / acres went up in flames, but the conditions were very similar to the current Palisades fire. Homes packed in close together all over the hills, very dense urban population in general, significant winds coming in from the Pacific ocean..... These current fires will very likely end up being the most costly in CA history, in terms of the insurance company payouts / property damage in dollars. Due to the extremely dense human population and houses per square mile. None of these fires currently in SoCal will likely get close to the largest fires in terms of number of acres burned, but they will still be horrendously destructive.

My sister is in the greater Los Angeles area, but far south of Palisades. Her town is not in any danger, other than smoke in the air.

Just one of the many aspects of everyday life in California that I do not miss.

Wow, that is tragic for sure. I am so sorry to hear that.

One of the many very bad things about California and all the fires... up where we came from in northern CA at least, most of the big insurance companies had been canceling people's home owners insurance left and right, because they were going bankrupt with all the payouts due to fires every year. My in-laws had been with State Farm for well over 30 years. They even had a county maintained fire hydrant literally at the end of their driveway. But because they lived in the mountains... heavily forested area, the State rated their 'Fire Danger' as 'High', and so State Farm canceled them a few years ago. SF, All State, AAA, Farmers,..... they had notified the CA State Insurance Commission several years ago that they were no longer going to write new home owners policies anywhere in CA, and would be canceling their existing policies in the next few years. And if the carriers didn't just outright cancel your policy, they jacked up the rates so high, no one could afford to keep them. My in-laws policy went from <$2,000 a year, to >$6,000 a year, shortly before they got canceled. Homeowners who could not find anyone to insure their homes, were left with only one choice - the California State offered fire insurance. It was like $6,000 for the lowest end policies, and had an insane deductible, so it was almost not worth it.

I hate when someone tries talking to me and I make it highly apparent that I'm 100% ignoring them (I dont tell you about my kid, I sure as hell dont want to hear about your kids. 5. Your 5 kids. You idiot.) and when he says 'are you even listening to me' and I say hell no and he keeps talking. About his kids. 5. 5 kids. And you didnt marry her so she could keep getting the $1800/month in food stamps and all I want is a thank you. For the stamps.

This might work, when he starts to talk to you then start picking your nose or reach around and put your hand in the back of pants, scratch your ass then pull your hand out and smell it…works for me.
