A legend & classic (at least here in Maine) that still consistently produces.

I was recently up at Carrie Stevens former property/homestead along the Rapid River.

Thanks. Yes it was. Bought two more since then. Man can’t stop with just one. The pics from yesterday were with a model 346 8 1/2’ trout, 5wt. Those gills bent it to the handle and you can feel every head shake.

Interesting. I would have thought 3wt was about right for gills. I've only caught them on spinners though so my experience with ff for them is lacking.

You can catch them on a one weight if you want. A slab on a three weight is a handful. I usually use a sage 9’ 5wt graphite in my pond for them. About right for sitting in a Jon boat and for casting distance. Will handle dries, sliders, bead head stuff and small streamers. Again, that just a preference. New to bamboo but from what I am reading is that back in the day a 5wt was the lower end of the scale in rods, most used 6 & 7 weights “D” & “C” lines for most fishing. Lighter weight bamboo rods more of a modern thing. Again, just what I’ve read. I own and have used 0-9wts in graphite. Bamboo is for cigar smoking fishing for me.

Annual 1/1 Tradition to get on the water. Got into a few LL Salmon. Rainy & windy with temps in upper 30's. Good times always.

Oh that’s genius! I was going to buy a little light box but I have a 3d printer so I might just print one too!

    (none ... yet)
I have a rod tube/tonneau cover question for you fly anglers. It's becoming a bit difficult for me to carry fully-rigged fly rods w/out breaking them down and putting them in the bed. I did make a PVC rod tube for inside the bed. (see pic) It works pretty well and I'm glad I have it for certain trips. The issue is that my 5' bed doesn't allow for a broken-down rod over 10' within this system. So all my longer rods are out. This leads me deeper into the envy pool of full length rod tubes. My questions:
    • Does anyone have a tonneau cover with a over-bed rack that holds a full-length rod tube on their taco?
    • Do rod tubes on tacos absolutely require a roof rack on the cabin or can they work with just a bed rack (and the tubes just extend over the cabin)?
Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
