Maybe I misread your post and thought you needed the hoop. The hoop is what your tire gets mounted on.

Front and rear OEM wheels located in Kentucky, not sure if these would bolt right up?

Those SM wheels are what I have been looking for. No extra $ right now though.

My dad got me a UHMW skid plate for christmas for the 701SM and I got it installed today. Man, plastic skid plates have some a long way, this thing is cool. Feels MUCH more stout than the aluminum one on my F800GS and should be much quieter, maybe a little heavier though. One piece thermo-molded thing from Vanasche and Molecular motorsports. Protects engine, header, brake master, and the linkage. Also gave the bike a bath and got it sparkly before the install. Filled the bucket with scalding hot water inside, washed it in the garage with the door closed, before going outside to rinse it in 35 degree weather :anonymous:

Edit: and yeah, I know a sumo doesn't neeeeed a skid plate, but it looked naked to me without it haha

    good to know

Unrelated: have you adjusted your rear preload with the shock still in the bike? Best way to get at it if you have? I'm pretty sure I have a shock hook wrench that'll work, it's just the access is a PITA.

Hey man on topic of the xt225 I've found 3 local below 3k one with 11k miles one with 4k and one with 5k miles I know you love yours but are there any years to stay away from? One is a 01,03 and a 07.

I haven’t touched the suspension actually but yeah that’s a tight area to sneak a wrench in. Exhaust seems to be in the way so maybe the other side? Also crank in your steering stops for full turning radius (if they’re not already)

Do a little research, but from what I remember about the only major differences from 1986-2007 production was in 01 MY to a change dual piston front caliper and the addition of a second throttle cable to pull the throttle closed in case something was sticky or a spring broke.

I bought my 06 with 10.5k miles and have almost 12 on it now. Outside of general maintenance wear items the only thing I have swapped was the main cam bushing for a bearing as preventative maintenance. Easy 10 min job, I have an extra bearing and a bunch of cam cover O rings they are yours free for free if you get an xt225.

If it's a bike that fits your desires and the price is right. You won't be disappointed. With how mine is setup and jetted, she has no problem doing 3-5.mph tractoring through a tight trail or doing 70mph on the freeway. All while getting 55-60mpg

Oh, i’ll have to look, i haven’t touched the steering stop adjustment. I reset high speed compression, low speed compression, and rebound damping after i did my skid plate. Figured it was good to get it all to baseline settings and adjust from there. i hadn’t touched the rear since i got it.

Factory service manual only describes adjusting it off the bike. I’ll probably just leave it until whenever I drop it and the linkage to clean and grease them up and have it off. Seems much easier. It feels a little too much preload, but not too far off.

Also, if you don’t have it, I bought the service manual if you ever need anything out of it.

Yup plan to do more reading at work (no work haha) but wanted to hear your thoughts since you like yours. We have a buddy with a older xt225 so we are planning to swing by his place and have her try it out and see if that's something she is interested in. If not it's the hunt for the xr150l again haha.

Thanks for all the info man!

Agreed reset is a good idea, and would be much more efficient removing the rear shock when the time comes. I haven't made adjustments front or rear yet but have been meaning too.

I appreciate that offer! I might ask for a page or two ha. I downloaded the free owner's manual since Husky doesn't give you a hard copy, and figured I'd buy the service one too at some point. Youtube is helpful of course, I'll have to check your channel for tips lol

I had Solid Performance KTM do the second service on my bike, it was already there for the warranty claim on the counter shaft seal. Also being lazy and didn't feel up to tackling the valve adjustment on my own. At 6,800 miles valves were still in spec and cylinder leak down test was good.

I was impressed with how in-depth the standard owners manual went. I haven't filmed anything on the 701 yet, but probably will whenever I do my valve stuff or linkage stuff, some of the more in depth things. With the Navi and the Grom when I first started filming, they were new models or new generations so there wasn't a ton of content out on them yet. Whereas with this I feel like I'm just repeating something someone else has already done a hundred times y'know.

I do need to get to work on my CT90 resto-mod project though. I know I'll film that and have most of the supplies ready to go.

Get the bike on a stand and usually you can just loosen the lock ring and turn the spring by hand without having to snake a wrench in
