I recently began having problems with my VW which is paid for and I've been interested in getting another Toyota (I had 85 SR5 and 89 4Runner v6) as a second vehicle. I have all kinds of motor toys but no truck to tow them so I have needed one for a while.

I really like the size and power, but like most others wish it got better gas mileage.

Other small gripes after almost a month (most are unique):
    1. Windshield wiper 'one wipe' option not there without spraying fluid
    2. Can't read the clock during the day (too much glare)
    3. My size 10 shoe, toe catches something under the dash moving from gas to brake and back.
    4. Undercarriage showing more rust than my VW that is 4 years older.
    5. Windows are loose in the tracks.
    6. No locking fuel door

I just added Westin tube nerfs, Weathertech wind deflectors and K&N replacement air filter. That will be it for a while as I have bills to catch up on.

I've only got 10k miles on mine so far, but I love it. The few issues i had with it were easily fixed (Wet Okoles to upgrade seat fabric, and bed mat to keep things from sliding around), and I've done a few other mods to up the appearance and utility (toolbox, ham radio, TSB, 285 A/T tires), and its just been great. Even with 2wd, it has done some impressive stuff. I'm planning on doing so much more, but I feel its going to serve me really well til I save up for a big lift and bigger M/T tires.

I'll never buy another Toyota again. Compared to Toyota of yesteryear, this thing is a pile of shit. Hopefully I can con a dealer into a decent trade in value. Otherwise id Like to ghost ride this turd off a cliff.

    explain?

I love mine, but if it was older and needed more maintenance and didn't look as pretty I probably wouldn't like it as much. Call me shallow :)

Build quality isn't there anymore. Mine isn't even a year old yet. Doesn't have 20k on it yet.

    - the trans has been worked on 4 times ( before any mods). The I'm on my 3rd blower motor and second insulation kit. Needed an aal, just so I could haul my 400lb quad without the suspension ridin on the bumpstops. The cloth is ridiculously thin.

    Should I keep going?

Ive always had full size trucks with the last one being a 1500 hemi dodge 4x4. I recently traded "up" to a '11 Tacoma. I was kinda apprehensive at first, but that didnt last long. 4k miles later, I don't miss that dodge at all. The truck fits my needs and I have no complaints at all. And when I get fuel its like I BOGO after driving that hemi!

I used to work in a shop and a guy came in with a first gen taco 4X4. it had a slight rattle from the timing chain and wanted us to check it out. He said all he had ever done was oil changes and gas. He never did the routine maintanence checks. The truck had 450,000 miles on it...thats when I fell in love with toyota...

2011 4 Dr. LB SR5 Two weeks old. 600 miles. 18.7 mpg around town. Used about 10 gal. per week with my 03 CRV. About 12.5 with the Toyota. Love it. This is my first Toyota. Rides better than my wifes 2010 Subaru Outback. Road trip from CT to Sc next month.

I absolutely love my truck, but I was very upset you did not have the option of a DCLB(double cab long bed) with a 6speed. It seems ridiculous to me. Especially since you think you would be hauling more, the necessity for a 6speed would make more sense, rather than having the option only with Shortbed's or 2wd's.....I get the SWB for the off-road "Toyota motto", Come on though, they had it all the way won and dropped the ball at the 1 yard line. Just my Opinion.

What necessity? The auto transmission can haul as much or more with the transmission cooler? The 6spd isn't even a good transmission, in fact it's down right horrible :/

And, I'm a die-hard manual for life guy... but on my truck I actually chose the 5spd auto because it's superior in every single aspect lol.

I totally agree with you, I just really like the 6speed. My opinion on the manual transmission, terrific! lol. I like how the manuals drive, just my opinion though. Yes, our trucks coupled to auto's are very nice to tow with. Also the lower gear ratio in the manual is nice when towing heavier loads, opposed to the auto. Apples Vs. Oranges.....

agreed that the lower gear ratio is better for towing, but it's a killer on road trips when 6th gear at 70mph won't yeild better than 18-20 mpg. Nevermind that you can't get 6spd in a DC any longer.
