Wildfire ash effect on engine?

People I’m located near all these fricken wildfires in SoCal. There’s a lot of ash in the air. Is there anything destructive this crap could be doing to my taco’s engine. I plan on changing the air filter and motor oil this weekend. thanks all.

 

Air filter will more than handle it

 

We had big fires near me, the big thing is air filters, the truck will handle it otherwise.

 

How close to the fires? Close enough to get hot embers sucked up into the Air Filter? Or is it just cool ash?

 

Take your filter out every other day if you're worried and hit it against your tire. It'll be fine.

 

If you’re hot embers close, your 20yo pickup isn’t your first thought

 

Air filter and a/c condenser are the big ones.
The condenser only if you are in “flakes” of ash.

Other wise, Air filter and it’s good.

 

I am just asking the question, I am a retired Firefighter, We ran different Air Filters on are Wildland Engines so If and When they sucked a hot ember up into the filter it wouldn't burn.

Ok, Your filter will be fine, If you are close keep an eye on it. If you are a decent distance away I wouldn't really worry about it.

 

Oh yeah I’m not trying to be a dick, just laughing at the idea of someone driving around in a storm worried about their air filter

 

I understand, He might live a distance away? And driving to work?

 

Hehe, me work, nah, been retired for years, just drive the taco to get stuff. Not really worried about the air filter was concerned about the engine. No worries. I appreciate the replies and info, take care all!!

 

Nothing to worry about. Look at all the fire apparatus driving next to the fire.

 

I'd also wash any ash off of your paint when you get the chance.

All those Fire Apparatus have a Different Air Filter in them.

 

Good plan. Stay on those filters -especially the air filter. I'll bet as soon as the fires are out people start buying them up. Get yours while you can.
Oil change is never a bad idea. Probably (hopefully) unnecessary but the peace of mind is worth it.
