    Hello,

I have the chance to get bulk 75w-85 gear oil that they use in at Toyota dealership or purchase it by the quart. Bulk is obviously cheaper…by ALOT. That being said, do you think the bulk oil is the same quality that is in the quart bottles?

I never worked at a dealership and I’m wondering if they just order cheaper bulk oil…I’m not sure if the quarts are any better.

    Thanks for your help.

One can never have too many light bars.
Same exact stuff. Sometimes it's easier to pour it in the differentials with the small bottles. You just have to buy a 10 dollar pump to go along with the bulk packaging. Also the "Toyota" brand oil is just Mobil 1 with a different sticker on the bottle.

Its most likely 75-90. My dealer uses bulk 75-90 and sells the quart 75-85 to keep the lights on.

Thanks for your quick replies! I guess if it’s the same, I’ll go with the bulk. They said that is what they use for all of their services in the shop.

I use this stuff in all three of my Toyota trucks. I will never use a pump again. The squeeze bags are super convenient. IMG_8092.jpg

Where are you getting it and for how much? I’m trying to find a good price also.

I keep my bags and reuse them from a bulk container, however, I haven’t been able to find a container recently. Any leads would be much appreciated!

Bulk oil only degrades from the young employee who drops the drum pump on the ground before putting it in the drum.

A five-gallon pail of Redline 75W85 (or any diff oil) and a pail pump is a good option, especially if you've got more than one Toyota.

This would be from a dealer in Pennsylvania, but I just found out that it’s bulk and the viscosity seems to be a “mystery.” The cost would have been $227.00 for the bulk oil with me supplying the container. They wanted over $600 for the oil in the Toyota containers!!! Insane!!!!

I’m not getting anything from the dealer. I’ve been doing a ton of research and it seems like 75w85 or 75w90 is recommended for both diffs and the transfer case. The main items seem to be: 1. Choose an oil from a reputable company and change it every 30,000 and everything should be fine.

I would purchase the Toyota oil if it was reasonable, but it’s nowhere near the price of many other good oils out there. Plus, it’s probably more important, at least in my mind, to change it every 30,000 rather than spend a ton of money on some crazy marketed oil.

Oh wow, I think you’re way overpaying. Valvoline 75-90 is what most people use. It’s about $60 for 4 1-quart squeeze pouches, which work really well to get it into the differentials. Check the specs on the transfer case, I’m pretty sure it calls for 75w and doesn’t use multi-viscosity oil.

Yep, I’m not getting anything from the dealer, too expensive.

It would take me several lifetimes to go through a drum of gear oil.
