Having a larger tank wouldn't be a bad thing. I don't think it's possible, and the 20 gallon is probably fine.

Irrelevant, my F-150 has the 26 gallon tank this is what the computer says.

I'd imagine the Tacoma burns less fuel.
Big tires do look good on the 4G.

I am not happy with the smaller fueltank , but I call utter BS. He is claiming 11 mpg. I have 35s. Off road, using engine as a generator during camping, I can clear 200 miles. I am not on Facebook, so don't know the details. I suspect he is exaggerating to prove a point. WE ALREADY KNOW. IT IS A SMALLER GAS TANK.

On the highway, with 35s, RTT, awning and shitter curtain, and a whole bunch of gear, I can get 270-290. That usually is a good time to take a piss anyway.

I’m not sure he is reporting accurately. He didn’t know what size tank the Tacoma has (until commenters informed him). He wasn’t really complaining about mpg. Like all of us, he just wants a bigger tank.

I totally get why folks driving cross country would like a bigger tank.

maybe try unplugging the battery to see if it clears something? but I bet they use some conservative calculation to keep people from getting stranded. I should be getting 360, but every time I fill up it says 265

I've had a few new trucks (Ram and Ford) do this the first few fill ups. Since it's a new truck, give it a few more fill ups. Run it down to a quarter before filing up. It may take a few fill ups for the computer to get a basis to stabilize the calculations.

based upon my ~2500 miles so far, i would estimate that the miles to zero estimate gives about a 2.5 gallon reserve (i.e. when you get to "zero" miles left, the truck will take about 15.7 gallons). your experience seems to be in line with this.

I'm just used to a larger range on my vehicle, seeing this drop was a bit surprising.
I will live with it, perhaps i will get out a swing out toolbox and put an emergency gallon in it to be safe...

I was referring to the guy on Facebook. But yea, the range leaves a lot to be desired.

If I ever have to do a long distance trip where I am not totally familiar with gas availability, I might put 5-10 gallons in the bed.

i wasn't surprised because i knew they reduced the size significantly, but i still curse every fill up because it was a stupid decision. definitely my biggest gripe with my '24.

Here is a video on a 1982 SAT math question where all of the selectable answers were wrong. After watching the video, I was thinking we might be expecting too much for accurate fuel range calculation.

What a time to be alive --- when new gas vehicles have less range than an EV.

I actually traded in my 2013 4x4 Texas Titan for my 2x4 Taco TRD Sport. I think the seats and engine were about the only good thing about that truck honestly. Why can't Nissan build decent vehicals anymore? It's gotten to where they only have decent power plants and the rest is crap. That 5.6 is a great engine with a shitty trans, rear end, radiator, etc slapped onto it.

I could do 75mi on the light easy when my FJ was stock. Range was 320-350ish. Now it's more like 200-250mi depending on how much boost I want to enjoy. (19gal)

The computer will adjust on the 4G. My 5G Prius has the same system. When it was new DTE started at 550mi , it dropped down to like 380mi on fill up after a few tanks. It's definitely not empty at 0mi DTE and I have driven it well beyond that point and where you get the "get fuel soon" message, and was still shy a few gallons of the max on filling it.

Toyota has always been extremely conservative about this. Even my 80's/90's Toys were the same. I guess the alternative is that you get stranded. I do prefer the older style gauges with the needle vs. the number. At least on the old ones you could see the level change if you sloshed the tank which gave me a bit confidence.

The claim from the Toyota techs was that it's a protective feature for the fuel pump to stay cooled, lubricated, and submerged.

Well if using the full 18 gallons damages the truck, then don't call it an 18 gallon tank, it's a 15 gallon usable tank.

Mine was a Texas Titan too! And =1 on that radiator. Came out to get something out of the truck after driving home from work and smelled maple syrup as I approached. So I looked under and found the bottom jug laying on the ground under the truck.

Nissan is having trouble building decent vehicles because they're having trouble keeping the lights on. The company has been in trouble for years now. Remember, they're joined up in partnership with Renault and Mitsubishi. Remember when Mitsubishi sold decent cars? It was about the same time Nissan did. 30 years ago. Remember when Renault sold decent cars (in the US)? Me neither! Mitsubishi sells, what, two models here now? Renault bagged out in the 80's. The former Nissan CEO smuggled himself out of Japan in an instrument case to Lebanon to escape prosecution for embezzlement. Nissan can't afford to build good cars. They have to slap whatever crap they can together and roll it out the door to whomever they can get to take them. They seem like a good value if you don't look too close, but they're janky and will likely be not much more than a pile of busted parts taking up space in your driveway in a few years. Less than a few years if you make the mistake of taking something with one of their CVT's...

They do occasionally get things right; I hear that V8 you mentioned is decent. The VQ motors are spectacular. I hear that new Z is pretty cool, though it's anything but inexpensive being the effective halo car it is.

I'd be surprised if long range america doesn't have a tank out some time
