    Good evening.
I have been looking for a protective cap that is slightly larger than the factory plastic cap. I have a small dent at the top of my tailgate and a cap that is just a tad Larger would cover the dent.
I see some press broke metal caps that are for the 2nd generation but the tailgates look more flat on the top and won't fit the curved top of a 3rd gen. I believe these were from a company called KB Voodoo.
All the plastic molding companies make these for Silverado's, and F150's and have for over 30 years. Names like DeeZee, and bushwacker come to mind. Some companies also make these in aluminum for the big 3 truck brands.
Is there anything for the 3rd gen as I have spent hours looking at Google images.
The only thing I have seen is a large plastic wing/spoiler looking thing that i am not interested in.

Anyone know who made the cap in these pictures? The picture is from Amazon for the Hooke plastic tailgate flat sheet. I can't find the stainless looking cap anywhere.
Is the truck in the pictures a 3rd gen? Looks it to me but I am no expert.

    Thanks

Have you looked into getting the dent repaired by a PDR specialist?

I can only confirm it does indeed look like a 3rd gen Tacoma.

What about a picture of your truck's dent.

Here is the dent. Hard to really see it in this picture. Just a small dent on the bend. Local pdr guy said it was to tight of a bend to fix, idk.
Just annoying. Nothing major and 99% of people would never see it. The formal owner of the truck hit the jack on a trailer with the tailgate down.

I read your post again sorry I didn’t pick up on the wing/spoiler one the first time.

I will definitely try another pdr guy. First guy said no.
I need another plastic cap protector anyway. This factory one has damage from when the last owner hit the trailer jack with tailgate down. The top of the tailgate was bent down fairly bad but I made a puller to pull most of the dent out. I was able to use holes already in the top of the tailgate for the 2 puller bolts.

I would definitely check with another PDR guy can’t hurt to get a second opinion.

Before I made the homemade puller, it started out like this. Looks 80% better. Still annoying.
If only the plastic cap would extend down another 1/2".

The tool you made is really impressive looks like something a PDR guy I see on YouTube shorts would make. Good luck with it I’m sure it will work out for you.

I would just go to Junkyard and check bunch of tacos, even copart. Issue might be color since yours is blue but free jankyard tailgate might be better than repairing a dent that will cost $

"free junkyard tailgates" I do not believe exist. There are many stories of them getting stolen from Tacomas, seems they are at a premium, by all means not free! IIRC from the posts ~$500. However, your price comparison may be correct.

How about a piece of self adhesive L shaped black automotive trim? lots of different sizes in Amazon. Slide one end of the L under the existing trim and let the other end of the L cover the dent.
