Just bought a '21 Tacoma 2 months ago. It showed the Navigation feature was not installed. If I want that activated, what is the procedure? I'm sure there is a charge - how much? And once installed, is that it? Or is there some type of recurring fee?
    Thanks much

Mine worked automatically, but it's a '17. Can't hurt to ask an advisor at the dealership.

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.
I use android auto myself, but realized a while back Im in the same boat as you.

So how do I turn it on? I've seen people talk about memory cards etc for toyotanav, but am curious what all is involved.

It sucks and not really worth any effort to mess with it.

Even if the dealer loaded you the latest for free you have to pay for updates and they don't happen often enough.

Since I don't have android auto or car play, I use a Garmin that has lifetime updates and traffic when I don't want to fiddle with my phone. And no cell dependency and easy to travel with and use in rental vehicles too. Just another option

Thanks guys. I guess with the phone and GPS devices, I really don't need it. Just thought it'd be nice. Sounds like more trouble than it's worth

What audio system do you have in the truck. I think Toyota calls their system Dynamic Navigation/Premium audio... Built in navigation was only on certain audio packages.

I think the navigation/map only comes on TRD models? I might be wrong, mine 23 SR5 doesn't have it either, i am using phone android auto and google maps.

I have a 21 TRD Sport and it did not come with Nav... I think they wanted $600-$700 to add it. I said no!
    Just use Google maps.

I think there is other hardware built in to the optioned trim, like a GPS antenna. I have the OE navigation and don't use it, the phone works so much better.

My 10+ year old Garmin 5 inch portable (hey ... think about cell phones 10 years ago) has a good "bird eye" view that the Navigation system cannot match with its muted-paisley-disney appearance. Besides ... the portable one can be moved to rental cars and can be carried if the truck is disabled.

I saw an account of a moron who moved to AZ from back east for off-roads. Drove out to rough off-roads (been to where he was so I can confirm) and asked his in-car GPS in his Accord (yes ... "Accord"!) for unpaved roads. Roads broke his FWD transaxle and he almost died because he had no GPS that could travel with him and he wandered for hours.

It actually says "Navigation App Not Installed" I don't see any name of system

Here is the brochure for your 2021. See page 18 for the various head unit that were available. Looks like you might have the head unit with Dynamic Nav which the original owner probably had a 3 year trial. Looks like Dynamic Nav is something you could subscribe to if you want.

Sincere thanks to all of you for all the assistance and input! It looks like the Nav needs a subscription. I doubt I want to go that route, at least not right now..... Thanks again....!

Yeah, the subscription for Nav alone is $15/month.

One more option is looking at an early 3rd Gen Premium head unit. My 2016 has built in Nav. My SD card map data is 10 years old but the Nav still works with no subscription. I can update my map data if I want. Here is the head unit I have.

My 2021 Sport with Premium pack came with it on and has worked for 4 years now and still is. I did not have to buy a subscription but then that could change.I just wait:fingerscrossed:

I may be mistaken. I have a 2019 and nav is built in with no subscription.

Here is where I pulled the information. Perhaps this is not on the Tacoma.
