That sucks...I get pissed at the outrageous shipping costs to Alaska...and FEDEX/UPS have major hubs at the Anchorage Arpt for distro to/from SE Asia ... WTF  ...I think they do it because they can.:spy:

I guess I should be thankful I don't have to worry about Customs (read the Gov't) jacking it up further! Sorry guys...:( or should that be ??

How does a private company charge customs fees? Are they calling it customs and keeping the fees? Or charging because they're required to route imported items through customs? US Customs is a gov't agency. Curious...

its not an actual 'customs' charge, they call it a brokerage fee charged by the shipping company - basically charge us extra because they haul it across the border

I see...similar to our "because it's Alaska" charge.

...Car dealers here love to jack up prices with that. But when I was leaving the UK for my assignment here, I looked into buying a car through AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange Service)...funny that I could purchase a car through them and the delivery fee was the same whether I picked it up from a dealer in Lower 48 or picked it up from a dealer in Alaska.

Same story when I bought my AFE Pro-dry air filter...Auto Anything wanted $38 dollars for shipping...I found the same exact filter through Amazon and was able to apply free shipping.

Hate that stuff...because sometimes you end up paying it but you just know you're getting ripped off in the process.

who did they use for shipping? I asked them to use USPS as I was told by a friend that I would not have to pay any additional fees. The guy told me it was no problem to ship with them.
