I had 4 new Denso preprogrammed sensors installed in my 2014 Tacoma. I’ve done the light reset steps but the light will not reset. Will I have to go to Toyota to resolve the issue? I’m trying to avoid their high prices.

No such thing as pre-programmed sensors, sensor ID's have to be coded to the truck using a scan tool or TPMS tool. Whoever installed the sensors should have done that.

I recently went through this with my wife's Avalon. Tire shop couldn't for the life of them get them to program in with the system computer. Tried several other tire shops and most could only program one brand of TPMS sensors according to their specific TPMS scanner tool. Ended up having to go to Toyota and spend an additional $180 to get them programmed in. *Note: I did purchase the "preprogrammed" Denso model-specific sensors for the year and model of her car from Rock Auto. Next time I will just get the tire shop to install their own brand when I get tires replaced. Turned out to be a huge hassle and expense.

An OEM TPMS sensor for the 2nd gen trucks comes preprogrammed with an unchangeable seven character serial number that's printed on it. The serial number can only contain digits 0 - 9 and letters A - F.

When one is installed, the TPMS computer in the truck has to be told the new sensor serial number or it won't talk to the new sensor.

This can be done with Toyota Techstream software on a computer that's plugged into the truck's OBD socket under the dashboard.

So will it remember 8 in total or is this a yearly thing when I swap from Summer to Winters.

That depends on the exact model of your truck. My 2010 2WD will remember four TPMS sensors. Some earlier models with remember five (one extra for the spare). If I recall correctly, the Techstream software supports two sets of wheels if the truck does, but I don't know if any of the 2nd gen trucks will do that.

    Eddie,
My ‘13 only remembers sensors for one set of tires. When I swap my snowshoes on, I have to reprogram the truck’s TPMS computer with the snows sensor codes.
Edit: I use Chinese techstream on an ancient windows XP laptop.

You need to tell the computer the ID code for each sensor. This is easy to do with the proper tool. But you do need to connect to the ECM/PCM

...I bought 5 OEM sensors from an eBay vendor for $57 delivered recently, and Firestone has no issues when replacing my tires a few weeks ago.

They must’ve had the programming tool.

Considering TPMS has been mandatory on vehicles since 07 any shop that does automotive tires should have the correct tools to program TPMS sensors at this point, TPMS tools are relatively inexpensive.

The place I went to only had one for a specific sensor.

I just did this with $25.00 (ish) for 4 sensors from Amazon. They came with the sensor ids already coded for Toyota/ Lexus. I had to activate each sensor and record each new Id with and in a tpms tool (Autel) and then upload to trucks computer via OBD port. Easily and only accomplished with the proper tool.
