    Hey guys
Long time, first time. Recently I have had some major life changes and I’m contemplating getting out of my super crew f150 and into a double cab Tacoma. I’ve found two examples around me that perked my interest and I was hoping maybe you guys could help me out. the first one is a ‘16 TRD off-road w/140k. It has some light mods (lift, uca, tires, couple other small cosmetic things). All for around $18k. The other one is a ‘19 trd pro, bone stock from what I can tell w/ 160k for around $25k. I love the offroad’s color, quicksand and not a big fan of the pro’s color, Black. However I really want leather and my wife (passenger princess) loves having a heated seat. I’m not a huge offroader. Mostly beach drives and job site mud. Yes I’m in New England so 4wd is a must. So what are some of your opinions? Grab the ‘16 that has the color I love? Or is the pro worth an extra $7k so I have leather and more creature comforts? Pros on the OR, cons on the pro? Thanks guys!

Personally I’d buy the Pro ( just cause it’s 3 years newer and I dont like black either)but only if you can pay cash. Both are good trucks. You could also buy the TRD Offroad and for about 3k put leather and heated seats in and be cheaper than the pro.

    Welcome to Taco world.

Personally I would go with 2019 model that's base without upgrades yes. Pretty sure that leather seats also will come with heated seats.

Before doing so, please look under the truck, make sure there is no rust on the frame, and check other stuff like maintenance history.

    Check the frame either way
Doesn’t matter if it’s 10 yrs old or 3 yrs old here in New England or other states.
Good luck with your search

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

There are lots of trucks out there, do some searching on the popular car finder sites & read here about what folks have seen and done.

Be very wary of buying any modified truck, you don't want to buy some hot mess someone else unloaded.
Keep in mind too that these trucks have very sensitive electrical systems, if you see a bunch of added wiring walk away.

    And check for rust.

Read, study -- and then buy.

Unless you need a truck right away, keep shopping. My 2016 has 59K miles, all stock except for a Pro grille and well maintained. Someone is going to get a great truck if I ever decide to trade or sell it.

Totally agree. You're looking at trucks less than 10 years old. You should be able to find many with well under 100,000 miles and with most equipment you want including your top 2-3 colors. Be patient and don't settle.

do you really want to buy a truck with that many miles on it, especially one thats been modified?
Keep the Ford, or shop for one with less miles.

Definitely check the frames, and run the VIN to see if there's any bulletins on the frame and if so has it been done. Otherwise you might be SOL if it rots.

MA here and can confirm re the rot.

Depends on where you live exactly I guess but I have 2WD and I've been fine.

Dude, I'm almost in the same boat as you but I'll be keeping my 2017 F150. I do have a 2011 Mustang I'll be trading, however. I've narrowed it down to a TRD Off Road with under 30K miles. Several to choose from, now if I can find a dealer that doesn't ask covid prices.

I aways check the CarFax, no salties and be sure to check for Rental Tacos as they're rampant around here. I worked for Hertz many years ago, no way I'd buy a rental car. Always driven like you stole it.

My 2017 just hit 50,000 on the odometer, keep looking as there’s the right truck waiting for you. I wouldn’t get one over 100,000 miles these days.

Over 100k on NE trucks...that's allot of salt time. I'd spend more time looking under them than worrying about heated seats
