    Happy Monday stockers.

I took the old 3rd gen T4R out for a ride to the lady friend's house on Saturday, the old rig isn't getting used very much lately. It's all 2 lane secondary roads on the route, so on the way home I wanted to engage the AWD mode ( Multi-mode t-case) to deal with the refrozen melted snow on the roads.

All I got was the blinking dash display. I was going around 50 when I tried to engage. When I got into a small town, I went into a parking lot and tried again while moving about 2 mph. I tried shifting into 4WD high lock, still just the blinking display, no engagement. I went back into the 2WD position and clicked the AWD button again and finally got an audible "clunk" then the 4 green "dots" on the display turned solid.

As I was back on the road, I shifted into 4WD and got a pretty quick center diff "lock up" with the orange dot turning solid on the display. I shifted back into 2WD ( but still had the AWD engaged) and instantly went back into AWD. I went through the cycle again in my driveway and it seemed to work OK.

I'm pretty good about cycling the AWD every month and never really had any issues in the 8 years that I've owned the rig. Maybe it's time for another t-case oil change?

I'm in MD near the PA line, if you're around that area I will make you a great deal.

They are 16's with stock 245 65 16 all season tires, I can look to see the brand but I'm thinking that they're Kumhos.

I think even new Toyota's 4WD systems can be hit or miss. I had an occasional hiccup this past week with my '24 engaging 4WD o_O

That is kind of awesome ... and something to smile about amongst the sadness and frustration of it all. :notsure:
    Maybe? :notsure:

I agree ... I don't typically see it between 2Hi & 4HI, but 4Lo (into & out of) can be finicky and require some fwd/rev and steering wheel wiggles to get the front CVs to free up. I think it comes down to tension in the driveline. :notsure:

Rules of engagement are conveniently located on that sun visor sticker nobody can get off. :)

I found the manual was easier for 4HI to 4LO. But the locker was the most irritating thing to get engaged.

Especially if one waits to be stuck to engage it. I try to anticipate and engage it if I think it might be needed.

That's where and when I came up. My older sibs all graduated high school in 77/78/79. Same school as Jay Leno. About 40 minutes from Fenway Park. You can imagine what was in the air. Aerosmith/Boston/The Cars/J.Geils was on BCN and COZ on the radio. Each sib trying to play their music louder than the others, competing on whose music was best. Our Gods were named Yaz/Fisk/Rice/Tiant/Evans (personal fave) Grogan/Cunningham/Archibald/Cowens/Middleton/O'Reilly.

    Center of the Universe.

And wimmen knew how to dress.

For 4Lo it's stop, neutral then engage. At least that's how I do it

@Sig45 Just on the drive home these Cooper's are far better than the stock tires. Had them put them at 33psi and it rides much better. I think they're better than the outgoing AT3 4S!

Mine has to be in gear to engage ... stopped, clutch in, in gear, engage ... IIRC it won't engage in neutral. I think my 2nd Gen did engage in neutral. That had me stumped first time I tried to engage 4Lo in current truck.
