Went in for service which under normal circumstances I would never normally go to a Toyota dealer for unless warranty work, but thought I’d give them a chance for a basic wear item this time. Anyway, needed front rotors and pads and asked for oem replacement pads not the value pads that are normally used when brake services are done on vehicles brought in. When setting up the appt. I repeatedly asked for the better pads. Not the AZ200 pads. Twice while making the appt and then twice the day of service to the service advisor who assured me they were the premium pads. Quoted a price of $580 with rotors and pads. Long story short, truck is finished, advisor comes to get me. I’m looking at the print out with all the part numbers listed and prices. Price was as quoted but the cheap pads were still put on. Unbelievable!!! No less than 4 times I told them!!!!! On top of that, I get charged $90 for the value pads! WTF! Just me ranting cause my fiancé thinks I’m nuts and doesn’t want to hear it anymore. This ever happened to anyone here?? I went back in and they said they’d switch up the pads next Saturday because they needed to be ordered, well why wasn’t I told this before I specifically asked for the OEM replacements!!!!!!?????

I would bring this up with the service manager. I would also plan to go to another Toyota dealer after that for service.

The issue is not the dealer or the technician it’s the advisor that didn’t update the work order … with the correct part number … sounds like time to find a new advisor .

I mean technically the AZ are the OEM, just the shitty OEM. At least they didn't do, which is increasingly common, is put the shitty OEM on, charge for the good OEM.

A dealer can fuck up a tire rotation. I agree with you. Best to never set foot at the dealer unless it's a warranty issue.

Unless I'm misreading the OP, that's precisely what the dealer did.

Frustrating for sure. They probably use what they stock and had no intention of using/ordering the correct ones, so now you can burn another weekend day taking it in. Good on you for looking at the invoice though!

I either hand them my parts, or I specify part numbers where I can. I ask to see packaging afterwards. I do this each and every time I take my truck to the dealer. I still expect to be screwed around, because that’s what they seem to do.

I’m also like you, I avoid the dealer and bring it to them as a last resort.

Minor warranty repairs are covered out of my pocket; superior customer service and experience.

I’ve found what I think are good dealers in my area, but I live halfway between LA and San Diego, so I have choices. My most local is one I’ve had several garbage experiences at.

Irvine Toyota, Toyota Nation totally sucks.

So I drive past at least 1 bad one to get to the good one.

Yes, lesson learned. Normally I do all my truck maintenance on my own but figured I’d give them a shot and just give myself a break. Just seemed very shady, everyone blaming each other. From the 2 service advisors to the parts counter. Never again!

Exactly, they made me feel like I was a Karen for asking. Hahahhahaha! In general I think it’s just the world we live in today. Laziness and no attention to detail.

The dealership messed up my first tire rotation on this truck. Never went back.

I already hated dealerships but figured I would go just for the first 4 free service intervals after I purchased my truck new. Never went back after the first one.

Idk how some of those guys manage to even tie their shoes in the morning (no offense to anyone who is competent and works at a dealership). I know it’s mostly the fault of the new guys they have doing the free oil changes and the borderline-criminal service managers.

I have no issues with the skilled techs that do the real repairs.

Pads and rotors were covered under warranty?
