The engines could survive a nuclear war, but the bodies and frames couldn’t survive a decade of winters in the Midwest New England, or the Northeast…

GR Corollas seem to have a habit of blowing their engines and spontaneously combusting under seemingly normal usage; I unknowingly drove my 2TR-FE with a blown head gasket for weeks, and the engine was fixable, but the G16E—GTS be like “I’m gonna make a spectacular exit and take the whole damn car with me!”

When you make 187HP per liter, it all has to be right.
    If it isn't, boom.

And to think the McLaren 765LT make 189HP per liter.
    The Ferrari FS90 is 193HP

Compare the prices. Then you'll know "why" the GR will might blow first.
Cheaper can come at a cost.

I'm not saying the GR is a bad car.
It is NOT, it's actually a great car for the price.
And we all know why it exist in the first place, Civic Type-R;)

Mine only makes about 59HP per liter.
You got me beat 2x over.

    But 119hp is great.
I remember back when the S2000 came out.
Slapping down 120ish HP per liter N/A.

    But 400hp on a 5vz?
    Damn, that is good.
    Any bottom end mods?

Some of those NA builds are staggeringly impressive. The 2.0L Honda K series with ITBs that can spit out 310hp are awesome.

The old 5VZ is happy with a solid tune, had it as far as 16psi. But at 15.6 it makes 405hp and 482lbs to the rear wheels. I dunno what it makes at the crank exactly for sure, but the Mustang Dyno claims it makes 475hp and 566lbs there haha. We are on a mission to find out what the 5VZ is capable of. My truck is sort of a starting point but we are now building a drag truck that will use on as well with some DIY head work, a forged crank, and a larger turbo.

    3VZ Camry crank?
    I hear they are forged.

I had a supercharger ordered for my 99' when I had it.
(kind of how I know "a little" about the 5vz.
I cancelled the order before it shipped (back ordered).
I sold the truck for a 99' Civic Si.

Then went to a 99' Lightening. (My first boosted engine)

Yeah, went and harvested a Camry crank, and Camry cams/valve springs to really get this thing breathing and revving.

Where is it building max HP at now?
Are you needing to stretch the RPM's out now?
I'd say you might get 6,000-6,250 out of it with good springs.
But that will depend on the cams you go with too.

    I'm an RPM junky.
    The B16A2 @ 8,200 RPM ruined me.

I hit Max torque at 3500rpm currently and hold that steady until about 5k and Max HP at 5k. But on the dyno that day I was having issues with boost control and was actually having the boost fall off early as it ran out of control. So now it certainly holds out even farther, guess I need one more trip to the dyno. I spin the thing to 6k on the stock valvetrain just fine as is. The 3VZ-FE camry stock revlimit is 6850 so we are thinking we should be fine to about 7200 without any concerns of float with its springs and we will be looking at degreeing its cams to push the powerband into the higher RPM range.

    You have a build thread?
I'm going to have to watch this one.
You'll be giving Torspd a run for his money.

I'm interested to see how the head gaskets hold up?
You have to be running the 2001-2004 MLS gaskets?
    Studs?

Yup, in my sig, just click the pic of my truck. Tor's truck has long been an inspiration, and my buddy who tuned my truck is going to be doing some tuning on Tor's as well. My truck is currently completely stock bottom and top end, no studs, no MLS gaskets (still have the factory 1996 composites in place). It's just pure 5VZ, Haltech, and some largish injectors. The potency so far is what kinda spurred us to set aside the 1FZ for later in our upcoming drag truck build. We just want to see what a 5VZ can really do if you seriously put some love into it.
