What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

That sprayed bed liner looks great! If I can seal the air and water leaks In the cabin I might get some fresh paint and sprayed bed liner applied.
What did you do with the inside tailgate panel that gets crushed down?

 

Did a power steering system flush, cleaned the screen in the reservoir, and changed out the power steering lines this weekend. No major issues during the process, other than not anticipating needing to loosen the steering rack to get to the line fittings. Got everything buttoned back up, bleed the system (put some cardboard pieces under the tires- turning lock to lock for a few minutes). Went for a test drive... and now the truck is pulling left.. I am very perplexed. I didn't even disconnect the rack all the way, didn't touch the tie rods at all, or anything to do with alignment... I am gonna try another round of bleeding today thinking there might be air trapped in there somewhere? but I am at a complete loss to explain the pull... anyone have any other ideas?

only thought would be that when you re-tightened the rack things didn't got completely back into place.

 

I loosened the nut and bolt on the passenger side, but didn't remove them completely, removed the vertical bolt in the middle, and loosened, but not removed the long bolt on the drivers side, and then just used a pry bar between the frame and the washer for that long bolt to pull the rack back a bit. The rack was never "free floating", always should have been in the same position on the long bolt. Everything went back together without an issue and re torqued without an issue

 

Yea that is weird. Are your bushings in good condition?
Did you bleed with the engine running or off? You're supposed to do it with it off.

 

There definitely needs to a be hitch sticking out the back

 

Bushings are in great condition- upper arm was changed out year ago, lower bushings replaced with whiteline 2 years ago, I did the work, everything is rock solid there. The whole front end was refreshed around the same time.

I bleed while the engine was running- I will do it again with the engine off.

 

Bleed the power steering over lunch. Turns out the problem was not power steering related at all. The drivers side wheel had a ton of resistance once it was off the ground, popped the wheel off, tried to compress the brake pads back into the calipers, and yup- one frozen piston. Time for the tundra brake upgrade.

 

too bad on the failed parts, but you gonna like better brakes with the tundra mod

 

Are you talking about the pictures panel? Luckily mine wasn’t beat up. Only dents was just the bed wall up against the cab.

I am talking about the pictures panel, didn't know it was called that. Yours looks great, mine is sunk in many places.
I did see your info on the cowl leak, haven't yet had time to dig into it. Hopefully in the near future I can find time.

Funny you mentioned that I’m actually looking at heading up that way again in the next couple months. I’ll PM you when I know when.

 

Almost got it back on the road after a wreck last November. Insurance totaled it and I bought it back. Still need a hood and a new tire but I’m under 1k in parts so far on the rebuild.
