The Tacoma is the loudest (and most expensive) engine I have ever had - including old Slant Sixes and the $100 dollar wonders of my youth.

Oddly when I was cranking out the 4th gear towing highway miles last summer with 3-4 hours of 3000+ RPM, when I would pull off for fuel the engine would be almost dead silent.

 

The new 2.4T 4 cylinder is slightly louder IMO. Oddly enough the non-aspirated A25A 2.5L in the Camry is louder than the Tacoma. You almost think it's knocking when cold

 

Should hear my teeth outside in this weather. With zero body mass it’s time to layer up.

Properly tuned and no valvetrain noises you couldn't even hear an old carb'd Chevy 350 run. Only way to tell was the exhaust noise

 

Waiting for our shuttle from the Minneapolis airport to the hotel, my wife was wearing jeans, a sweat shirt, hoodie, jacket and gloves.

I was still wearing the shorts and polo I put on that morning in the Dominican.

Anyway, the Tacoma is ridiculously loud inside. I got spoiled by my work truck, a 2024 2500HD Sierra. Its very quiet in comparison. Sound deadening will be happening with the Tacoma. There are a few good threads in the 2nd gen section and I think the 3rd gen section as well.

 

The mind goes delusional just before freeze up. Don’t ask me how I know.
