1st Gen speaker recommendations- please

aside from component sets, have you tried speakers, from any of the places you listed, that produces decent bass. If so, any recommendation? I understand regular sized speakers don’t push out lots of bass like coming from a subwoofer, I’m just looking maximum bass from 5x7” speakers that fit my doors without breaking the bank. I prefer to not install a big subwoofer.

 

i've been very happy to be running my peerless hds nomex drivers for about the last 8 years between multiple vehicles now. it's been 'pay-walled' due to some politics at peerless, but the aluminum coned version is still available

my other vehicle runs daytons esoteric 7", which has a nearly identical tone to the peerless hds, but were discontinued a few years ago, though were really popular, so might still be available second-hand

there's also dayton's signature series. i haven't personally tested them yet, but they have a very similar build quality.

Stupid question from a non-audiophile- are speaker upgrades like this worth while when keeping the OEM head unit (assuming impedance must stick to OEM speaker specs)?

I had to open up the door to fix the door handle and now im itching to go back in to stuff in some Amazon dynomat and well... While I'm in there right?

 

I recently put these in the rear of my 1st gen. They're actually beautiful drivers in person. Sound wise, they're difficult to get a good response out of on their own since the effective range is really 200-3kHz given the absolutely shit open-baffled design Toyota made for the rear. And when pairing with a proper full-range or tweeter, the highs will completely overtake it, so for an average user I'd recommend coaxials.

 

These are generally low-powered drivers which complement the OEM power output. Look for higher sensitivity drivers at the lowest supported impedance the head unit can handle to offset lower power output (eg: 91dB @ 1W vs 88 db @1W)
