    You got me wrong....
    For the service, thats cheap....
Ive known tons of folks get just small 20 ft boats transported on flatbeds & / or just towed cross country & looking 3x that prices these days depending on the bid...

Im not saying pay it, im just saying for what it is, its reasonable....
But how can you just buy a truck w/o seeing it first, might as well just fly out & drive it back.....

    or roll the dice......

cant sit on the needle in the hay stack, it will be gone & the hunt continues.....

Eventually, you quit playing in the haystack and you go buy a brand new 2025 needle from the needle factory. OP will get what he wants, and he'll look as hard as he wants to look (or as little as he cares to) until he finds it. You don't have to always settle for things you don't want. He's shown the patience of Job through this whole ordeal, what makes you think he couldn't possibly hold out another month or two for the truck he actually wants?

2023 there was dealer in VA who had a Lunar Rock AC OR I was very interested in that. I didn't want to drive down there only to walk away, that was a desirable combination, why would you give me a better price? What really gave me pause was the video from the salesman, I saw more of him than the truck in that video.

Job wasn’t really patient. He just never cared about his first (starter?) marriage and planned to write off the losses when the insurance adjuster came to check out what happened to the livestock. Someone really did him a PR job in The Book though. Solid.

Yesterday. I was the point man, driving through Morgan Hill, Ca. SB US 101-freeway speeds were 65+, when I watched the pictured Tacoma AC coming down the pictured ramp north bound into the south bound traffic. I avoided the head on collision with a last second swerve but the guy behind me (in the flat bed) got all of it. The cab of the Tacoma was virtually intact. Not sure how the driver fared, his lights were on but nobody was home. According to witnesses on the ramp the driver was slumped over before driving down the ramp.

I would also argue Job is a sucker. Really sounds like an abusive relationship to me.

Your DC was also an OffRoad with new 46mm Bilsteins.

Stop and think about the physics. A spring accepts and releases kinetic energy, whether it's a flat bar or a coil. Spring rate plays a minor role, but it's the shock that regulates the spring. Ride quality is mostly in the shock.

Motor journalists and internet people cite all sorts of things. Coil must be better than leaf. It's newer, and it's different. But they both do the same thing. The truck still has a solid rear axle and a frame - not independent suspension. The coil and the corresponding linkages allow for better articulation ("better" meaning a wider range). That's better for off road, but not necessarily ride quality on paved roads. Eibach, Bilstein, KYB and all sorts of folks will have products to replace those factory base model (probably Hitachi) shocks.

I appreciate the input more than you know. My knowledge of suspension is as basic as it gets. I try to do my due diligence and gain as much knowledge to make an informed purchase. I get the difference with the solid axle vs independent suspension. So is it safe to assume if I do a substantial upgrade in the rear shock quality or all the shocks, I can improve the pavement ride?

Just giving you a heads up, the SR5 will not ride near as good as the Offroad you had. I have an SR5 with the coil spring suspension and it rides worse than my previous '22 Offroad. Now, getting rid of the 245 tires for 265's has improved it, but not as nice as the 3rd gen OR was.

Honestly I’d suspect it’ll ride just fine, and maybe a little softer than your OR. Trucks that ride harsh have stiffer springs (3/4 ton and 1 ton), especially when there’s no load (which is a lot of times nowadays).

The Tacoma is the best selling midsize truck, so shock manufacturers should have something pretty soon. If you liked the shocks on your OR, wait for Bilstein to offer a 4600 or 5100 series. Usually $100/corner for the 4600 and $150 for the 5100. Other manufacturers like Eibach will have their offerings as well. The pricey stuff is for lift and real off road performance (mainly to handle longer cycles of use and not fade).

Those replacement $'s are not a hard pill to swallow either. I do not do any serious off roading. Where I am in Southern Utah there are so many places to drive on packed dirt trails but I need a bit more clearance and have had to use 4wd hitting these sudden "sand traps" and muddy trails. Toyota offers a lift and level kit for the DC that is also warrantied with the truck. Not sure if there is anything for Xtracab but their prices are ridiculous.

Again, instead of speculating on which one rides better (or if your butt can even tell a difference), the important thing is just getting some seat time. You don't want to buy one trim based on your experience with another, then later realizing you don't like it as much.

Agreed. I have owned a Gen 3 DC Tacoma, 3 other pickups in last 10 years and I currently borrow a Gen 3 DC with original suspension with 100k miles on it. I test drove the 2024 OR and loved it and drove it for 2 weeks until it shit the bed. I have no question on which my ass liked better and I also feel the new seating position helps over the old lower position. For me its a matter of which fits my overall needs most and will I be able to live with what it may be lacking... and the answer is an absolute yes. And with ways to make some minor or major improvements I'm not worried about any regrets. I also put less than 10k miles on a truck per year.

I would if I was buying new for sure, but I've had my 2010 single cab 12 yrs now and no problems with the ride.

 I know. I kind of like it only as a two door, no way as convenient as having the access doors.

On one hand I agree. On another, the rear door on the access cab blocks you from getting to the inside of the truck, when you're in a parking lot with another car parked beside. Opening the access door just put a wall between you and a shopping cart at the rear of the truck. My wife will happily (or not so happily) confirm.

Folding the seat and reaching around is arguably more convenient.

LOL Thanks for the reminder. I recently posted (a brutal post) on this thread thinking the post was somewhat relevant, but it’s not. I totally forgot the 4th gens don’t have doors on 'extra cab'. My bad. Anyway, I think any Tacoma cab is survivable in the worst of conditions.
