    That’s a good thought! I appreciate the input. I think she’s pretty traumatized from that trail so we will probably avoid it all together this time. There’s so much to see and do in that area it’s overwhelming trying to pick just a few things.

    I contacted them and the estimation was a tad higher than expected. They're asking $299 for their kit (not sure what kit as the clamshell, seal, puller, and installer together for ECGS is less than $200) and then $400+ for labor. I usually will wrench myself but after all my back injuries I don't wrench much anymore especially if I have to crawl around on my back, but this is one of those things I may have to just wrench myself.

    I've been up there a lot. Been up there when the snow was pretty deep. That adds a bit to the experience! Did you turn around and go back to Whitefish, or drive up and over Red Meadow? Really cool country.

    We turned around and went back to Whitefish that time (2023). We were back in October 2024 and I used all the helpful info everyone here gave me to explore some other parts of the mountains.

    We already have another tripper planned in 2025 and the first thing on my list is to take red meadow from the start to polebridge. We did Polebridge and Kintla lake last year but we went in via Columbia Falls. Absolutely stunning place.

    just hit below zero here in Butte. Forecast for tonight has been all over the place - was down to -35 at one point but now they're saying -20. just glad i work from home and dont HAVE to go anywhere unless I want to!
