    Yeah

There's been plenty of talks about cost of vehicles + cost of living and comparing across various states

Whenever financials come up, he seems to be at the center :bananadead:

    ah, I see.

I'm not gonna circle the hypothetical toilet bowl... thaaat much

but one of my best friends moved from MI to CA a bit before Covid, we had similar jobs, similar education and are about the same age, his income is around 70% (correction 60%) of mine, his housing costs are around 300% of mine, his housing quality is.... around 30% of mine (hard to quantify but its a stab) obviously his access to some of the coolest vehicle oriented outdoors... 1000%+ but he doesn't have the money to access the cool shit even if he has the time

Not gonna say that my work ethic and aptitude might not have made my income higher than his... but it seems like I'd take a pretty substantial effective pay cut to move to CA.

Pre-covid my wife and I were more or less planning to collect the cool stuff we wanted to have, then move to PNW where we could use all the cool stuff all the time and not have to struggle to save to buy it. now I'd say we are not locked into a plan lol

    Oof

Don't know what you guys do but man that's shitty

If anything, average pay is much higher in many areas to justify the higher cost of living

Maybe his field isn't as high in demand

I already live in a state where it's expensive to live and moving to California would murder my financials too, it's an overall very expensive place to exist.

Yeah, I legit felt that when I posted it cause I'm the same way

But it's one of those you better find out sooner than later...later isn't a good thing especially if there's an issue you're unaware of

My experience with urgent care is... get seen by someone who's overworked and tells you that whatever is going on (they don't know because they don't care enough to test anything) needs to run its course, then charged $700 for that very useful information.

Not to be that guy, but have you had your appendix out yet? FWIW, that's how my appendicitis started, just belly discomfort for a couple days, bit of nausea and no appetite. That died down then the specific area pain came and I basically had to crawl to my truck and drive to the hospital. That was fun. Better safe than sorry.

So not a bad enough case to go to the ER

Scheduling with your doctor is a long drawn out thing I take it?

That's sort of what I was getting at with "underlying issue" :fistbump:

    (Sounds like a shitty experience)

No it hasn't been out, no nausea really, appetite is still here too. Just feels like I'm always full with acid and a bit achy.

I'd say its still in demand, but the salary range for a mechanical engineer is actually pretty stable across the country, until you climb a corporate ladder or ride the startup wave just right

and I would say for younger people trying to get into a hcol - its really that the expectation for your personal life/living situation is hugely different, for people raised there or in another HCOL, that expectation is roommates/renting thru your 30s or somehow leech of of mom&pop then theres those who were able to purchase a home in 2008-2018 and it really is a completely different experience

If I weren't so stubborn, I'm sure like many of us, I could've saved some pain. I was still surprised that's what it was even when they told me. I'm attempting to work on the stubbornness as I get older haha.

Ah gotcha, sorry you're dealing with with that, doesn't sound fun. Tried some Pepcid at least?
You'll know when it feels right to go in.

Tums kinda seem to work on and off. We'll see what happens, yesterday was pretty good actually and today isn't bad, just not quite right either.

Which subfield of ME do you work in out of curiosity

But for real, there is a stark difference between the life you can live if you were/weren't able to buy pre-20.
Effectively have to make double+ to live a similar life.

First day back at work, security cars that burned in the lot a week ago

whole area looks like a wasteland, national guard still patrolling and blocking most streets. Drive by several houses burned to the foundations and others next to them that look hardly scathed. That wind was no joke
