Official TSB for automatic trans failure from Toyota.

Are those the same codes that show up when Toyota starts replacing parts in the transmission? I wonder if the issues is what makes the debri? Something in the transmission that's not getting lubricated properly making contanct then creating debri. Maybe the computer causes the lubrication problem and so on. In your particular case the computer catches a problem shuts things down before any physical damage could occur.

It's swarf left in the housing from the machining process. That's why they replace them with the same transmission, and it works.

 

I thought it was casting sand from the torque converter not being completely flushed out which is why it is replace along with the transmission.

 

Whether it be swarf or casting sand, hard debris in the fluid means it could be anywhere; blocking small channels, jamming check balls, causing solenoids to stick, tearing seals, gouging journals, trashing bearings...

Solving it completely means either replacing everything in the fluid path with known good parts or painstakingly disassembling everything and cleaning every single part that's still good while replacing anything you identify as trashed. Assuming you even can. You can guess which of these things is more practical at the warranty service level...

Be nice to know if there was record or a way of knowing if they revised their inspection process for a certain date so that you know if there was a build date after the new inspection.

 

In case the list of affected VINs hasn’t been posted in this thread for a while, the VINs with the last 5 digits after these were made after the issue was corrected, and are not affected

Mine is in the list of affected, but not all owners are having the issue. It’s my opinion they should just do preemptive replacements free of cost for owners’ peace of mind, given how much they’ve paid for these

 

You want them to do a service that costs many thousands of dollars that there’s no evidence is even needed, tens of thousands of times, to make people feel better?

That’s not an argument based in reality.

They’ve got a campaign set up to take care of the problem in instances where it actually does happen. That’s entirely reasonable.

 

Yea they will never do that if no problem is noted. However because its a known problem and well documented they should send out notices to extend the warranty for the particular problem. Having that in writing is the key. My personal experience BMW did that for the N54 turbo engines where they warrantied the HPFP (High Pressure Fuel Pump) for 10 years 120K mi because it was such a problem on the earlier models. That was just one example for BMW's there were more. Yes they had issues but BMW backed them - for the most part? That car (335i) after I tuned it was a rocket ship though.

 

They very likely will extend the warranty for the affected VIN's but there's no reason to do it now. None of them are even halfway through the factory warranty.

 

For what it’s worth, whatever translation/optical character recognition was used to extract those numbers failed a bit. Turning 5s in to Ss etc

 

this list doesn't include the hybrids, did they get cleared?

 

The previously referenced TSB was superseded by T-SB-0094-24 which includes the hybrids.

 

My truck falls into the S/N range for potential issues. The frustrating thing is Canadian dealers don't seem to have any record of T-SB-0094-24...

 

How long was the wait to get it out of the shop?

 

And why are you so "sure" of this, born-today poster? Please enlighten us all.

 

Sorry to hear about that but your broad claim does not follow from your individual experience. Did your failure just happen and has it been positively identified as the same issue as the TSB covers? I can certainly sympathize with being extremely pissed at a failure at 1k miles, but this is a forum to discuss things so providing more detail beyond a vague post would help.
