Some of them have really short wait times to get citizenship - like 2-3 years - but no requirement you work in said country, just give them money and live there for part of the year; Malta looks like they just want your $$


Switzerland is super strict on their immigration shit - you have to have a job in the country [and there are only skilled jobs there] before you are allowed to move there; it takes a long time to gain citizenship. I met a dude who did this when I traveled a lot - I was super impressed as I had never met anyone who immigrated to Switzerland before. Switzerland is also the only functional democracy as far as I am concerned.

 

One can certainly make that argument.
It's not quite a direct democracy though.
You can make it work in, say, a small town in Vermont, but a country?

We are a Republic, a representative democracy.
There is a significant difference, and it always irks me when people say the U.S. is a democracy.
I don't see how a country as large as ours could possibly function on Switzerland's model.

I wouldn't mind renouncing my citizenship for another country, but that's just me. I've seen nearly every state and I'm bored with all of them.

I had a coworker who retired and was moving to Portugal. They have a decent expat population.

 

Well, since it’s so quiet in here….

I had to go downtown New Orleans for a site visit and decided to play tourist walking around…











Oh, there’s also a giant Toyota ad with a picture of the front end of the Tundra. It says “Got a Big Game? Get big results…” or something like that. Couldn’t get a picture as it’s awkwardly situated for viewing from the road and I didn’t wanna be roadkill.
