Yep Renos only got a few openings, and all enlisted. Where I'm at (having a degree and already accepted a good career starting job in a stable decent paying industry) enlisting doesn't make sense. Going through process for OTS and OCS because starting as 01 is a toss up if better or worse than my current option, but sounds way more exciting.

Reserve guard and work my job, or enlist/go full time guard if I realize I hate my job is current thinking. Aviation related would be sick :D

Well there’s several options, and depending on your degree and life experience there’s other possible options too. I was able to direct commission. Depending if you have a legal background, medical, or sometimes IT, you might be able to go the same route. Your best bet is to talk to a recruiter and get all the details!

Care to share any frustrations/issues you encounter?

With how small and localized some guard units could be, I figure its likely to have varying experiences.

I have 10 years active duty and 19 years with the AZANG, so my experiences may differ from others. I have served in smaller line units in outlining areas, which I loved. But I have spent the last 10 years at Papago, which I have not enjoyed.
I started my military service back in the 80's with a break in service. So, I have seen a lot of changes, some of them good, and some of them not so good.
I am so excited to finally be hanging up my hat later this year.

Understood. Kinda like the corporate world some teams are great some suck because of one manager. I have just never heard a single bad thing about air guard here in Reno.

Also sounds corny but seeing the fires in LA kinda wish I was in a role to do something, even though IDGAF abt so cal. Still regretting not doing wildlands fire 3 Summers ago and starting into that, not only looks fun but rewarding work. I was in, and let my parents talk me out of it.

We joke about the Air Guard, but we are just jealous of them.

Idaho Air Guard still operates A-10's ...

    That's just cool.

There was a lot of frustration here in Reno that Air Guard wasn't even being used for fire help when about 15% of south reno was evacuating for fires within ~1 mile of homes, and it came down to gov management above guard not initiating them to help. Guard guys were very outspoken about wanting to help but not allowed to just voluntarily do so using guard resources.

IMO, buy when you can afford. Don't try and time the market or overextend yourself financially. APS bills suck in the summer.

Did you see the house in person? Tour the surrounding areas? Like I mentioned before you'll know when the house is right. It's a gut feeling.

    Fun story time update…

A little over a month ago I took it upon myself to service the transmission in our GLK350 with 122k miles. Mercedes recommends every 30k-40k, it had clearly never been done and the fluid was straight black but didn’t smell burnt, luckily. This thing even has a drain plug for the torque converter which is awesome. New filter, new gasket, new pan bolts, lots of fresh Amsoil ATF.

Fast forward a few days and we notice a leak. I reset the fluid level and checked my work but everything was correct. I finally found the leak, it was coming from the bell housing of all places. Yay!

I’ve never really done much automatic transmission work but I had no choice. Had to figure it out and just get it fixed. I suspect the detergents in the new fluid cleaned away sludge around a dried out seal allowing it to leak.

Pulled the tranny, took it apart, inspected everything, which thankfully looked great, reassembled with all fresh seals, broke a bolt since they are all aluminum, drilled and tapped that out and finally got it reinstalled. I saved all the fresh fluid I had just filled during the service, so pumped that all back in.

24-hours later and I’m grateful to say no more leaks and car drives dumb smooth. I have come to genuinely like working on Mercedes and can say they actually design shit way better than most manufacturers.

    Good times.

That has silently been the goal. Still waiting on a few parts to show up before I can put real break-in miles on it. Hell, the truck still only has 600 miles hahaha.

Stuff that costs more than my wife thinks.
my old man used this, when making boxes for co-workers in PD. dried in about 12 hours and worked well for him. Sanded it all down and used different colors as needed.

it’s obviously a smaller section, but I’d imagine what’s good for one is good for all.

Edit to add - I said "obviously" like you can see it. Here's the one he made my grandfather - epoxy was used in the thin blue line.

I'd offer to let you use his laser engraver too, but it'll cost you a trip to Georgia.
