I agree, but I find that winter grade gasoline doesn't make as much of a difference as the amount of fuel used to bring the engine up to temp.
For instance, I get 25% worse fuel economy in December vs. June for the exact same short trips.
In June, my temp gauge is mid range halfway through my 5 mile trip to drop my son off at childcare, while in the winter, it hasn't hit mid range until I arrive at the destination. I have kept records where I fill up at the end of two weeks of commuting to drop him off.
For long distance travel to the same destination 700kms away , in winter, using a bit of 4wd, I got 10.2 litres per 100km, while in summer, 2wd only, I get about 9.7litres per 100km.
I'd also throw in tires as a huge factor in fuel economy. Ditching my BFG KO's lost me 16lbs per tire and I gained 10% in fuel economy regardless of season.

Heavy tires are a mileage and acceleration killer.

its for acceleration and braking, but once the mass is moving it rolls with similar resistance as less weight tire

I get very similar numbers in the winter, somewhere around 17.5-18.5 w 32" non E load winter tires and a mid rise cap and a 100lb sleeping platform/drawer setup. I'm able to get closer to 19.5-20.5 in the summer though same tire size just ATs, unless I'm going 75 or 80 on the highway which kills mpg regardless. No added weight and all season tires def were better when I first got the truck, I could get 21 to 23mpg. No matter the setup I've noticed a significant 1-2mpg drop in the winter, which I attribute to gas blend, slower warm up times and more idle time when warming it up or stopping, and even air density increasing drag.

I will for sure be purchasing smaller tires and wheels closer to stock size this week. will get back to you about mileage once I see the difference.

sorry I don't really understand how this forum site works, I thought this was just a forum of everyone asking mileage questions I didn't know it was your specific forum.

The lightest E rated tire I could find for these trucks was the 215/85 R16 Firestone Destination X/T, which also happens to be excellent in the snow. Mine came in at just a tick over 36lbs. I put them on a set of alloy 2nd gen snowflake rims. Love em. I will buy again.

I don't think you're hijacking the thread. Please continue.

Duratracs are heavy tires. I think the issue may be with your driving habits and the weight of the tires. Are you regeared?

I am regeared with 4.56 and 285/75/16 and get a little over 16mpg with the conversion. So maybe 260-270 miles to a tank

When mine was stock I got 17-19 pure highway. Granted I have a 6 spd 4.0, but was about 2200~ RPM at 60 mph. Never saw more than 19. Mixed city/hwy driving 16-17. Tread pattern makes a huge difference, as does how much PSI you have in each tire. Lower PSI=less MPG typically. After a lift with 33.6” tires I just get 15 mpg everywhere, whether I go 55 mph or 80 mph. Or pulling a trailer. 15 lol it’s not terrible though

I agree, the 6 spd gears are so close together. 5th and 6th have no spread hardly. But it helps passing when in overdrive.

to everyone saying duratracs are heavy, i remeber in @Ripcord build he compared weights of many tires including duratrac, and theyre the lightest, and why he choose them originally

I have to figure out whether I am regeared or not, that is on my to do list. tires are definitley too big as they rub my fenders even with a 2" lift. I want to go smaller but not too small because it might look silly in comparison to the lift

mind you everyone the reason im stressing mileage so much is im from Canada where our useless government charges us a carbon tax on top of already some of the highest taxes in the world. gas right now is $1.55 CAD per litre and/or $5.87 USD per gallon. mind you as well our dollar is like half the strength as yours. so ya im stressing over here.

Yah, a truck is not a car. Its bigger and bulky. Don't expect 30mpg. At the same time, 11 seems a little low. If you got 15-19 id be happy

Sounds like you're in BC. $184.9 in the lower mainland today. I really hope to never see the day we hit $2.439 again like we did in October 2023.
    That's $9.21 a gallon.
The galling part about the carbon tax is that the Westshore terminals in Delta BC is the largest exporter of thermal coal in North America, sent to be burned overseas, none of which has a carbon tax on it.
