I've wanted a 4th gen for years but could never justify the "tax." Def my next pickup.... whenever that happens.

Anyone have experience with the HK VP9L OR? Looking to make my first purchase and the CZ I wanted that my local shop has is no longer on the roster. I held the HK today but can’t find anywhere that I can try it out.

I’m interested in either that or the Beretta 92fs (or m9). I shot a friends 92fs and really liked how it felt, but I know it’s a completely different gun; metal frame vs polymer, hammer vs striker, etc. I do like that the HK is optics ready.

I’m new to firearms in general, so if anyone has other suggestions I should look at let me know! I also shot my friends Sig (I forget the model), but liked the Beretta a lot more.

The only complaint I had with the 92FS is that it had me thinking "I should have bought the M9 for the rail" after a few months. Also, it immediately had me wanting wood grips and skeletonized hammer. Cheap modifications, at least. The biggest "issue" with them is the same as every other DA/SA handgun with a decocker, in that the trigger pull on the first shot is noticeably different from that of every follow-up shot. Train yourself to get used it by remembering to use the decocker every time you load it at the range, or just straight up decock for every shot on some mags. Definitely kind of regret selling mine.

Thanks for the info! I think I’d lean towards the M9 for that rail. When I shot the 92, I didn’t notice the difference with the 1st shot, but it was also my first time shooting and I had a long pause between that and the other shots. I wish the range by me would reopen so I can try out a bunch of options.

I'm guessing you loaded it and shot right away, instead of loading it and using the safety lever to decock it. When it's decocked, it's a long, heavy double-action trigger pull because it cocks the hammer and then drops it. When it's cocked, it only has to perform a single action (dropping the hammer), so it's got a lighter pull. The DA pull is something like 11 pounds and long, while SA is a little more than half that and much shorter/crisper, so it's pretty noticeable.

So many guns on the market, I have the sig p320 m18 (m9 replacement) and love it. I’d do some more searching before landing on a gun that’s 40 years old. Things to consider, are you wanting to shoot a red dot? If so buying something precut for an optic is a better option

Now that you say that, that’s exactly what it was. What you describe would certainly be noticeable.

That’s the problem, there are too many haha. Ideally I would like a red dot. About a year or so ago I had my eyes on a Langdon Tactical Beretta that was cut for a red dot and CA legal, but I don’t see it on their site anymore. That’s what led me to the HK. I did briefly look at the Sig P320, but haven’t done much research on that. I’ll take another look at that. Thanks!

Gen 4's represent some of the better deals on second hand market because everyone wants a Gen 5. It's not unreasonable to find a lightly used Gen 4 G17, G19, G26 for around $750. I picked up a Gen 4 G26 on Calguns a few years ago for around that price. By comparison, a brand new Gen 3 at the LGS at the time was $599 + tax and dros which ends up being over $700. The small premium was worth the better texturing, smaller backstrap and ambi mag release on the Gen 4.

You make a really valid point. I haven't really kept up with the market. As a lefty, the gen 4s fit my hand so damn well out the box, that factory ambi release is so damn natural. Completely forgot that gen 5s exist and such. Time to keep my eyes peeled a bit and the piggy bank stocked up

If you are looking at hk p2000, I suggest looking at the VP9 optic cut. It's a striker fire like a giock but feels more ergo in the hand if you have small hand. The gun just came back on the roster.
