I have a 2001 tacoma trd xtra cab that the frames shot, and a 2001 tacoma regular cab. I wanna swap the rear ends but wanna keep the original 4:30 gears in the single cab. the xtra cab code is BO3A and the single cab is BO7A. So same size, just different gears. Will that work? i just wanna make sure they could be swapped out before i do all this work. Thank you

Since you didn’t mention it I’ll throw it out there just in case, if your 2001 is 4WD your front differential ratio needs to match the rear.

No, the gears from the open diff will not work in the e-locker carrier. The ring gear bolt spacing is different (larger in the open diff for the bearing girdle).
You can buy 4.30 gears for an e-locker, or any of the other ratios, but that’s not a direct swap.
And as @Area51Runner pointed out, front diff gear ratio needs to match the rear if you’re 4wd.

The locker and non-locker diffs and housings in 1st gen Tacomas are based on different designs. You can't mix/match parts between them. The locker is commonly known as an 8.0" diff/axle, and the non-locker is 8.4".

If you want a 4.30 locker, you'll probably need either need to either custom build it, order it from ECGS, or salvage a 3rd member from a 3rd-gen TRD 4Runner. I'm not aware of 4.30 lockers ever being put in a Tacoma. It might have happened (Toyota did all sorts of things) but it's definitely not common.

Unless you can find a 4Runner locker for cheap, you're probably best off to swap the 4.10 front diff to match the 4.10 rear. Anything else is a lot of money for a small difference in gear ratios.

thanks everyone! and yeah the single cab has 4:30s from the factory, it’s the i4 so i would try to keep the lower gearing for the bigger tires.

I agree that 4.30 would be nice but it's not worth losing sleep over. 4.10 with the 2.7L and a 5-speed in a regular cab is perfectly livable as long as you aren't running excessively large tires (31" is fine, 33" is borderline) and aren't overloaded.

2.7L/5-speed trucks got 4.10 from the factory up until around 1999/2000.
