It sounds like the insurance was there for show only.
I read somewhere in this thread, that Gentleman went to have his dental work done in Europe, it costed him much less with a pleasant traveling tour.

    Afternoon all:

It's a Key Stoker 90,000 BTU hand fired coal stove, very similar to a wood stove except it burns coal.
I have an oil furnace, but the auxiliary coal stove cuts down on oil consumption, keeps the basement toasty warm, and also provides heat during any power outages.
We live right on the edge of the anthracite region of Pa, plenty of older homes still use coal stokers with water jackets to heat hot water for the tap and to also heat the water for baseboards or radiators.

In all fairness, they presented me with three different types of crowns, porcelain, zirconia, and something called cercfired (approximate spelling); I could have saved something like $700 if I'd opted for the porcelain, but I'm tired of replacing cracked crowns, so no more porcelain for me. :)

Definitely the wallet; the worst part for the mouth was the, uhhh, twenty or so novocaine shots. Ouch!

    I was thinking something similar...

I have a real hard time trusting dentists.

I'm with you. The older I get the worse it gets. You used to be able to take people for their word, times changed...

When they (gleefully) outlined the procedures for stabilizing the stuff that was failing, then repairing it and ran the expected total bill (yow!). Then the great news that other old work could be expected to fail in the next year or two - I went for the oral surgery and dentures. I think I did the right thing for me personally - can't speak for others. It is a bit tricky learning how to use them but I really like the end of painful and unexpected episodes.

I started to get suspicious when I was getting a cavity a year all through elementary and junior high, and when I went to the military dentist after not going to a dentist at all in high school I didn't have any cavities. But it didn't really connect until years later when a dentist told me I needed "root planeing" or "you'll lose all your teeth over the next twenty years"... and it sounded more like a sales pitch than a diagnosis. So I went to two other dentists that said the same thing, word for word, and I knew it was a sales pitch. I went dentist shopping and when I told the next one that I would respect her education but they were my teeth and I'd be the one making the decisions... she said, "Then you need to find a different dentist." The next one, before I had a chance to say anything said, "I make plenty of money taking care of people's teeth, so I won't sell you anything you don't need."
That was in the early '90s, and I haven't lost a tooth yet.
But how can you really know? I suspect they are all on the same computer system sharing information and they know what other dentists have diagnosed.

Without getting too deep into the weeds here, I don't have a lot of respect these days for The American Dental Association, or The American Medical Association either for that matter.

They have failed the American people, no doubt about that. I will add the American Heart Association to the list.

Wow, bad stuff for sure... sorry!
We moved to this area in 2018, less than a year after the fire that destroyed many units in Rancho Monserate and wend west as far as Daniel's Market and the movie theatre. Santa Ana winds then... and a hot ember from a muffler on I-15 was all it took.
We were in San Marcos for the 5 year prior and a hillside fire had us evacuate then. Before that we lived in Oceanside, near the mission, for 20+ years.

Morning everyone :hattip:I trust all my medical professionals, always have. Not once did any of them tried to sell me anything. My health issues are 100% my fault, smoking and junk food. My dental issues are the same, not brushing enough, nicotine and sugar. I have a few crowns, missing a back molar because of neglect and lack of money. Hereditary and bad habits cannot be changed by medical professionals.

Good Morning Porch Folks :hattip:. Rained yesterday so we ended up doing :washing: laundry.

After reading all the posts about dentists, I am in the same boat as most here. I have caps, fixed bridges, numerous root canals and one implant. Last time I went to the dentist they looked, took xrays and said one of the bridges needed to be replaced. I told them to just pull the teeth and they said they won't pull healthy teeth ... That was 2 years ago and the bridge is still there and no problems. At 77 do I need expensive (even with insurance) dental work . Nah! don't think so...
    Nuff said.
Have a great day folks and be safe :fistbump:
