I’m contemplating selling my 2000 PreRunner because of the LBJ death trap issue. I’ve lost faith in Toyota because of it now. Your thoughts ?

You should sell it because it's 2WD, not because of the LBJs.

    4 run, 2 don't
It's always been a thing, nothing new.

You just hear about the issue more often as these trucks are racking up miles all over the country.

More often than not, LBJ failure is the result of but not limited to -

Original ball joints; the newest 1st Gen is over 21 years old

Cheap ball joints; no-name brand sets from Amazon are among the worst, don't cheap out here

Improper installation even with OEM parts; due to different bolt types, incorrect torque values are often used which result in hardware shearing off sometimes during install or in an uninstall

However, there's still a market for these trucks and people will continue to buy them. I'm actually in the market myself.

With that said, take care of it, perform maintenance as needed (including preventative) and you'll be good to go.

I really appreciate your response. After further investigation & records the LBJ’s were replaced by the previous owner and only have 50k on them. They are tight no slop, the boots are in great condition, no leaks, & no tears in them whatsoever. I’ll keep checking them periodically. Thanks again, I feel better now

Replace them anyway. Use oem, it's not worth running aftermarket.

Nonsense. It’ll work. That’s just legal disclosure to protect the manufacturer. Except the manual hubs part.
