I could be wrong, but was thinking the 228 vs. the 278 difference is due to lack of a transmission oil cooler on the AT SR. The MT SR rating should be the same as the OR or Sport since a transmission oil cooler is not a factor for an MT. Whatever the underlying reason, Toyota's site definitely can't make up its mind right now on the SR MT horsepower rating depending on whether you are looking at the abbreviated or full specs. Lt. Dangle and Jeff Lange's info are what I would trust & both say 270 for the manual SR.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Gonna need bigger exhaust manifold. Nope, bigger than that.

Did we ever get an answer if the manual SR has the full 270HP? Anyone drive both and able to tell a difference?

I think it's always been the case that the SR has the 228 hp engine and the SR5 has the 278 hp engine, regardless of transmission type or 4x4 vs 4x2. That's the main difference between the two IMO. The e-brochure for the 2024 shows this. A screenshot I saved from fueleconomy.gov shows one difference in the engines, that the SR5 has SIDI and PFI, a different type of fuel injection system. I'm not sure about all the changes that account for the 50 hp difference.

This is not the case with the 4th Gen - the SR 6MT is not detuned - it has the same output as the TRD OR and TRD Sport 6MT - 270HP.

When I looked more closely, it seems like you're right. The SR/MT (appears to be available only with DC/5 ft bed/4wd) has a 270 hp engine. That must be a little different than the SR5 engine that has 278 hp.

The manual engines has a tiny bit of HP loss (which doesn’t really matter anyways) due to wanting to avoid “crankshaft hammering”

Different gear ratios in the transmission and final drive, too.

I thought I read that the SR engine does not have the oil cooler and several other parts are not upgraded for higher output. It might be from the engineer video.
