Hi. I am a new owner of a 2024 Tacoma Limited. I have noticed that my Daylight Running Lights occasionally flicker while I am driving. (I caught it on home cameras). The truck only has 250 miles. I have tried looking it up but am having no luck. If anyone can help me figure this out, I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Trip to the dealer. It could just be a loose plug maybe but it’s easiest to let Toyota figure it out since it’s warranty

Pulsing leds is common on video.

google “why do led bulbs pulse on video recordings”

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.
Almost certainly just the frame rate of your home camera. Trucks fine.

Yep. Try to catch it with your eye. Bet you can't.

My garage has 3 8' LED tubes for light from the ceiling. Looking through the phone camera will give me full on wave action, nothing seen by eye.

BUT. If we're all wrong, and you can really see it by eye, exercise that warranty.

Note to self: This was a Friday post. Barely, but it was.

I'll go with the you can only see it on film. There have benn manufacturers with DRL flicker issues Ford being one of them, and I've seen plenty of DRL bars that no longer fully illuminate on other brands. Funny thing about the flickering on film is when someone uses LED in their non-LED housing and those flicker going down the road. I think that looks terrible by the way, why it's usually a Odyssey, Accord, or a Matrix is anyone's guess. I did see a big rig with flickering LED headlights before, that guy must want an inspection.

Toyota lamps for the most part seem to funtion well, 3G has the switch back sequential LED DRL. More things to go wrong and you can't replace anything but the housing when something fails.

The 4G lamps are boring no LED DRL bar on most of them. I prefer a dedicated high beam reflector and bulb, and would have liked an amber DRL like 2nd and 3rd gen on the low end lamps. I do like the simplicity of the 4G lamp, it's mainly the the single lamp for high and low I don't like, and the amber DRL was in my opinion a Tacoma identifer.

I understand about the possibility of it being the camera. The only thing is that I have looked at previous videos and it does not do it in every video. It also has only been during the day when the headlights are not on. The headlights do not flicker. It almost looks like flashing lights. I will try to catch it when it does it again to see if it is just the camera.

So you haven't seen it with your own eyes? If you haven't seen it then it's gotta be the camera. Cameras do goofy things with LEDs. When I take pictures of my truck at night I get a purple halo around my headlights from my aftermarket drop in LED orange marker lights.

That is correct, I have only seen it on camera. My husband noticed it when he checked the camera when it was triggered. After that I started looking. This is the first time with a brand new (not a “new to me”) vehicle and first truck so I might be a little too anxious about things being wrong with it.

So, is it possible for it not to flicker on the camera every time? Is it just a timing issue with the camera?

I wouldn't be surprised it is hit and miss. The camera frame rate and lighting may affect it and may only happen when they synchronize just right to make it look like they are flashing.

The light intensity is controlled by rapid flashing. Not visible to the naked eye.

Just wanted to let everyone know that you are 100% correct and it is the cameras. Just experimented with the lights/camera. Hubby started the car and when he turned the headlights on, the DRLs started flashing on camera but not IRL. Once again, I am so glad I joined TW and the Tacoma Family. Thank you! Thank you!

My security cameras pick it up on every vehicle we’ve had recently with LED lights. Front and rear lights. Depends on the camera shutter speed, led frequency, etc. Lots of variables but completely normal.

    Science!
