Those with Manual Transmission...why?

After a lifetime of driving only manuals, and 24 years of wheeling the manual 97 taco, I can’t wait to wheel an automatic trans.

Starting and stopping on steep, awkward, and sometimes dangerous angles was sometimes unenjoyable. Scary.

The new Taco will be auto, for sure!!!

I didn't think about those circumstances while off-roading.

It can be challenging on the road...let alone rocky terrain.

I enjoy those stickers that say: "Dont believe what you think"

 

I did see this sticker on the back of a Corolla. It did prompt me to stay back a little further. The Corolla was a manual because it did roll back a few inches. Good thought, the sticker may keep people further back even if you have a Auto.

 

That’s what the e-brake is for. With a little practice, you can completely eliminate roll back. The taco also has the clutch start button, but I haven’t grown a habit of using it.

 

Don’t need the e-brake to feather the clutch a little. Peeps in here talking like driving stick doesn’t just disappear from your brain after year one haha. It’s no different than automatic as far as thought process or difficultly whatsoever, I’m not sure if some people are just speculating or never put a little time in one, which is fine, but you simply go about your day same as any other vehicle, I promise haha.

I never stated I was speculating without experience.

It is possible that people have different experiences.

 

First two trucks were manual.
I also learned driving three on the tree.

Since 2000 everything has been an automatic. I honestly believe that automatics are so much better today than any manual. Who wants to manually shift 10 gears? Fast and Furious makes it look fun but nah.

But still - I miss driving a 5 speed and a 6 would be nice. It's not about economy or ease or convenience it's about the nostalgia of man and machine becoming one and an extension of each other. Why a manual? For the same reason people still ride horses.

 

I’m referring to starting on 20 degree slope with a cliff 1 foot behind you or other similar situations. Careful e-brake application allows you to not roll back even an inch.

 

I sometimes have to drive my wife around in her Rav4, and my Honda Big Ruckus
is twist and go. other than that last time I drove an automatic, slush box, was my
mother's 65? ford Ranch wagon. I learned to drive MT after buying a Porsche 365C
in Queens and driving it into Manhattan. MT is more fun, even the cross country trip
in a late 60s IH Metro stepvan camper..went from that to a Bug and a 57 Chevy PU

 

Yes, the parking brake and clutch start cancel, that’s how I did it for 24 years.

Sometimes it’s so steep, the parking brake won’t hold. Angled down or up seemed effect the parking brake. And yes, the parking brake system was adjusted correctly.

And even when it did, finessing the parking brake, clutch and go pedal in a steep dangerous position, got old.

Reversing up a steep, blind, uneven section of trail, with my body and head twisted backwards while performing several stops and starts is not fun.

Never again...

I mentioned mine were company trucks that HAD to be traded every 4 years in a post a little further on. Anyway the trade couldn't take 5 months (for me) looking for a MT buyer. It was take it in and jump into the next one so I could get to the next job site. Kinda like a hermit crab. Its a fiduciary strategy. Right?

I have a Plymouth Barracuda for me. After I get to 11.5 second quarters with the automatic. I will change the car myself to a period correct 4 speed and try to stay in the 12's!
