Hello everyone, this is my first post here on tacoma world. I'm looking to possibly buy this 2013 tacoma trd pro with 105,000 miles. It was serviced at the dealer every ~5,000 miles, and has a lot of modifications that I like. It has really good suspension (icon shocks and total chaos control arms). It's also on 36s which is a bonus. What should I look out for when I go check out the truck? Does anyone recognize it from previous posts on this forum or others? Thanks!

Also, what does the reliability been like for 2013? I'm trading in my old truck, and need something a bit more reliable, but just as fun. My fiancée is worried about the milage on it. But the carfax looks amazing, 1 owner and nearly 30 service records at the dealership. It was also owned in a dry climate, so rust shouldn't be too bad, if it's there at all.

Don't think they made the pro in that color, looks to be just a TRD OR, so I'd be little leery on what else the dealer is telling you without seeing it for yourself.

36's are hard to fit without a good amount of body trimming and CMC. Doesn't appear to have a drop bracket lift, which is a good thing.

Do the records show that the transmission has been serviced at all? 100k is about when you'd want to start at least looking at a drain and fill.

    ^ this. It’s not a pro.

    Reliability is good.

Expect that truck to get 15mpg or less.

Frame rust is apparently an issue with Tacomas. More so if it lived on salted roads. Bring clothes you don’t care about, flashlight, safety glasses, screwdriver. Crawl under, vigorously poke at the frame, looking closely around the cats.

I think they do an annual treatment with fluid film or wool wax ideally. Not cover it with a can of krylon.

The Toyota site will tell you what it is. The sticker on the bedside isn’t always right.

Is it a 4 or 6 cylinder? Auto or manual transmission?

Rust is the big thing for tacomas in general
For this specific one I’d check for body mount relocations, inner fender clearancing and if the truck has been regeared for the tires. Obviously these are things you can take care of if they aren’t done, but it’s either going to cost you time or money or both to get them done if they aren’t already

I have a very similar truck that is getting 37s put on soon, and it’s a lot of work that would not recommend most people take on

I went to the website, those are 315/75/16
Closer to 34-35 range, way easier to fit. Probably would just need a very aggressive cab mount chop if it doesn’t have one and some inner fender hammering.
Regear to 4.30 or 4.56 would still be important

First Tacoma Pro was available in 2015. That's a TRD off road.

Considering the grill surround is color matched, it might not even be an OR trim. Verify it has a rear locker.

I’m running 4.30’s on 33 inch tires. For 34-35’s I’d definitely want 4.56 or better if it’s going to see any serious off-road use.

Also, there are two types of builders: people who build their trucks to actually use them hard offroad, and people who build their trucks because they just like the way it looks, and they like the idea of it being capable even if they don’t use it that way. Crawling underneath and looking for frame and skid scrapes will tell you.

Like others said, the TRD Pro is only a 2015 and newer model. It's nothing really special - It's a TRD OffRoad that looks like a TRD Sport (hood scoop, painted to match grille surround, rear bumper and mirror covers with turn signal lights) plus a TRD exhaust/muffler that some people think sound too loud or has a drone to it, TRD shifter knob (for either auto or manual transmission), and wheels. They only come in 3 colors - the white and black are available in other trims, but the Inferno Red is only available in the TRD Pro.

When you do a Carfax or similar lookup on almost all 2nd gen Tacoma's with 4x4, they show up as "TRD PRO" even though 99.x% are not.

Any interest in a 2015 TRD OffRoad with TRD Supercharger? 4 door automatic. Mine is always for sale to the right buyer. Currently 94k miles, full service records and I'm the 2nd owner. @OverlandPNW It has all the features of the TRD Pro except the exhaust and turn signal mirrors (smoked headlights, shift knob) as well as some 3rd Gen TRD Pro parts (giant aluminum skid plate, FOX suspension).

Oh yeah... smoked/black instead of bright chrome. So there's a few things, but nothing special. Mechanically it's all the same as a TRD OffRoad. It's not like the TRD Pro can magically fit 35's or anything.

You all are right, I am brand new to the tacoma trims, so I got the name wrong. It's a 4.0 auto trans.

Thank you for all the advice! I'm going to check it out with a buddy tomorrow. I really like the tacoma platform, but this one is really pricy for the milage. I'll post here if I end up getting it. Hopefully it will be in good condition, and I can join the tacoma community!

I just checked out their website and looks like there’s a seemingly bone stock 2014 with half the miles for a couple thousand bucks more. Personally I would check that one out too, and maybe even try to an offer a bit less than their asking price and see if they bite. That way you don’t have to worry about someone else’s mods/what may have been messed up from them, and you can just do the ones you like/want. The one you posted looks nice too though, and has the button for the rear diff lock in the photos so it’s at least a TRD Off-road. https://www.pdxmotors.com/inventory/toyota/tacoma-double-cab/13505/

This 2014 looks fairly clean…and looks to be a SR5. No rear diff lock button. The ONE photo that shows the frame by the passenger rear wheel it looks clean, but all other signs make me want to run away... Bolts in the engine bay are super rusty. That doesn't match the condition of the frame in that spot, so it may be washed down and resprayed with black paint.

BE CAREFUL FOR SNEAKY AF DEALERS that will clean up a Tacoma with a badly rusted frame and pretend it is good by spray painting it black.

Yeah, @OverlandPNW - I also agree with @skee here. I wouldn't go after the heavily modified, cut up green one you posted. Best case, everything is in good condition. Worst case, the wiring is hacked up for the radio and lights, the shocks are completely shot and needs more than a $800+ rebuild, etc.

hey, thats an awesome modded truck, couldnt ask for better additions to it, although the 36" are aggressive, but nice armor, color, year, spec, etc.
