Was wondering if anyone knew about a tune/modification available to remove the engine shutoff switch that occurs when you hit the rev limiter.

Hit the local sand dunes here and there and would find it advantageous to have the same sort of hard rev-limiter in the second gen. and prior pickups. Like this:

It seems that this can partially be achieved in the third gens, but only when you mash on the gas shortly after the engine shutoff occurs:

FYI: I don’t care about repeatedly smacking the rev-limiter on the 2GR-FKS. My engine is not gonna blow up. It’ll just make cool noises and get me up a dune without the potential to bog because of a stupid “safety” feature.

Subbed because i'd love this in my wifes built manual trans 2017. Been a pain when wheeling sand or snow and you bump into the rev limiter only for it to pull power and drop the RPM. A quick clutch dump and floor it again does the trick but sometimes in that short bit of time you loose enough momentum that you fail to make it through or up what you were trying to. 2nd gens will sit on the limiter all day if you want it to.

i'm definitely interested in this as well. it's one of my bigger annoyances with the truck. just let me bounce off the rev limiter and hold it!

i assume one of the tuning companies can do something about this? or is it the traction control system overriding the throttle inputs

    Can't a tune do this?
I have bumped off the rev limited a couple of times, sometime when I forgot I left it on S1...

Trucks rev limit was also raised to 7k also.
Never had a engine shutoff, but I have been tuned since 2018 so...

I don’t think it’s the traction control system, as I have it turned off completely when driving in the sand. The only thing that cannot be turned off completely by “normal” means is the ABS system, but that wouldn’t seem to be the issue either.

it can never be turned off fully. you can hold down for 10 seconds or whatever and it can be most of the way off but never fully off and it cant be tuned off. or atleast it couldn't be when orange virus tuning (vftuner) was trying around the time they were building their turbo kits. that part of the ecu could cut throttle inputs and even apply the brakes on its own no matter what they tried

    Sounds very nice :D

Seems that the driver had the automatic transmission and was using the “‘S’ shifting” feature. But beyond that, I’m lost on how the fella was able to ride the limiter too

With a long press of TC button, it absolutely does turn off TC and VSC completely.

for the most part yes but not "completely". the system is still active in a way and is the part of ecu responsible for cutting throttle in specific instances like when speed governor is hit. which is why im wondering if its also responsible for cutting throttle when rev limiter is hit.

Have tried figuring this out with yotawerx, seems like nothing can be done unfortunately. Thats my YT vid, just gotta hop on and off the gas super fast.

I was about to say. In snow I would do the same thing. It sounds like it's constantly on the limiter but you have to hop on and off

Regardless of the details of operation, a rev limiter is a nanny. I suggest learning to control the engine rpm yourself. Once you master that skill, you can move on to the manual transmission. Yes I’m trolling you guys. :)

    agreed.

i can confirm at harder angles and higher wheel speeds, the traction light definitely still comes on. doing snow donuts in a parking lot and then trying to exit the donut while maintaining revs, but countersteering to offset the rotation is usually enough for the tcs light to start blinking.

    #know your vehicle limits!

I dont know about the "rev-limiter" part.

I was talking about TC and VSC, long press shuts those two off completely.
