So my ‘95 showed P0500 Vehicle speed sensor A to my understanding there is no sensors on the transmission only the Speedo cable and an O2 sensor. Speedometer and odometer work fine. The only thing other than the CEL being on is a little ATF smell. I can clear the code and drive for a while and I don’t notice much of a difference in the performance but the CEL will come on again. So does this mean it’s the instrument cluster? What other things control this code coming up as a speed sensor, if there isn’t anything other than the cable? There doesn’t seem to be a clear cut answer anywhere I’ve searched and a lot of people have asked this question. My truck is as bare bones minimum than anything, no ac, no abs (the fuse is missing in the engine compartment fuse box) no wheel sensors I can see anywhere, nothing at the differential. So I’m a bit stumped because normally this knocks out all the speedometer and odometer etc. Anyway I can’t figure it out.

The sensor is in the speedometer, what engine do you have so I can post the appropriate info?

Can that connection from the transmission cable be repaired or do I have to buy the whole cluster?

I don't know how it's serviced but fist you need to do some testing and verify it's bad before assuming.

Can't help exactly but maybe this has something to do with it..
I believe the guage cluster creates an electronic signal to to ecu after the speedo cable inputs the speed. Somewhere between the speedo cable entering the guage cluster and the ecu may be the culprit.
    Sorry for the vuage info.
