I got this custom long bed from my neighbor who I helped build with and recently bought it as my first truck. I haven’t done anything crazy to it yet besides maintenance. I do currently have a rack being powder coated for the bed coming soon but for now this is how it sits.IMG_0737.jpg IMG_8501.jpg
It was originally a 2004 4 door short bed TRD Tacoma. My neighbor lifted it and did some simple mods to it before the longbed. The back half of the chassis is older than the original truck and the bed is also a different year. I am looking for a different bed or a paint job currently but for now I eown the look. I recently put new CVs and brakes on if so it drives like a dream.

Solid truck and looking for a simple (what my parents think) durable off-road daily driver that can do what I want.

I did take it up to bald mountain (great trail by the way definitely recommend if your in California) and I was able to keep up with a Cherokee on 35s no problem in the snow. Was a little light in the rear but nothing horrible. I am going up again dooms so I’ll put Some pictures in here.

Bald mountain ohv in shaver lake is an excellent beginner trail to play at if the users bypassed the obstacles. Great view at the top for a quick bite with families are friends.

Not on hand at the moment. I’ll try to get some tomorrow. But there is 1/4 inch steel welded along the side of the chassis. Wouldn’t know it wasn’t stock if you didn’t know much about tacomas.

SNF has a ton of trails to play on, depending on your skill, built level, and comfort.

    Bald Mountain - easy
    Shuteye Pack - easy
    Blue Canyon - easy
    Brewer Lake - mild
    Swamp Lake - mild
    Mirror Lake - mild
    Red Lake - mild
    Coyote Lake - hard
    Strawberry Lake - mild
    Dusy Ershim - hardest

Easy: stock truck will have no issue
Mild: lifted, rear locker minimum w/33”+ tires, and rock sliders
Hard/est: lockers front and rear w/37”+

yea. they came through Tamarack side. Super easy and mellow.

Some obstacles at bald that people bypassed and say it’s easy to reach the tower: v-rock, Hollywood hill, transmission rock, posi, etc. It’s literally a semi-maintained FSR (Fire Service Road) with some rut and off cambered

Coyote Lake will probably need 40s to make it an easier trail as 37s will still have anchor issue at the gate keeper. This previous season, there’s some huge rut and drop. A spotter will definitely help if you’re not comfortable.

Dusy isn’t bad for the most part, just long and slow. 2-3 days to travel 30 miles. I will admit, some section is gnarly and seen people rolled their built rigs out there.

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.

IMG_0893.jpg IMG_0894.jpgIMG_0895.jpgThis is the plating in the chassis. I believe it is 1/4 or 1/8 inch steel in both sides.

IMG_0900.jpg Got to bedline the rest of the bed today to prep for the rack. Originally only the inside of the tub was sprayed so I finished it off.IMG_0900.jpg Here is an example of before. The top and tail gate were raw paint.image.jpg and here’s possibly the worst photo I could of got with the finished product.

Getting ready for a bald mountain trip again and started packing early, and built a milk crate to keep stuff in.
    IMG_0988.jpg
mounted the fire extinguisher mount using some small bolts and some old gift cards as huge washers to make sure it doesn’t move. Just threw some random stuff in that seems necessary right now

Pro tip: get a larger 5 lb extinguisher. Make it quick and easy to get at and remove for operation. If you ever need it, you’ll need it quick. And you want enough contents to really suppress a fire

Went to bald mountain again today. Completely different trail than the last time I did it a month ago. New group lineup, Cherokee, pathfinder, my taco, moms runner, friend's friends mid size Chevy, and my friends jeep. Although in typical jeep fashion, the Cherokee didn’t want to start and after much further investigation we found out that the started solenoid is fryer. So my dad and his friend take my truck down to get it replaced. The rest of us stayed and waited for them to go back down the mountain. We kept ourselves entertained and me and my friend drove some rcs. IMG_1020.jpg
    Mines the Tacoma.
After a long while they came back with the part and we got it started. We then started up the trail and found a very slushy trail. The whole trail was either bone dry or slushy. Started our trek up and started following the Cherokee and the jeep because they had much harder lines and was more fun to follow them. Did not have much of a problem following themIMG_1112.pngIMG_1113.jpg
Did some of the hard lines and probably should’ve broke something but I didn’t. Rest of the way to the the top was rather uneventful except for the sun going straight into my eyes. Made it to the top and got some cool photos and had some snakes because it was absolutely freezing up there. We got there we were met with an absolutely stunning sunset that was definitely one for the books.IMG_1081.jpg IMG_1081.jpgIMG_1076.jpg IMG_1079.jpg After a while we started to freeze so we headed back down as the sun fell on us so I got to use my ditch lights in a real application for onceIMG_1091.jpg
Night trail is really fun and I have never done it before so it was a first. Made a small mistake on the way down though. Not as bad as the pathfinder as he dented his steel bumper and broke a light but it was for sure a mistake. On one of the bigger rocks I stayed to far to the right and dropped down on my hitch and shattered my trailer plugs. But now it gives me an excuse to mount them in my bumper.IMG_1095.jpgThere used to be a cover on them but not anymore. That was the conclusion of the trip as the rest of the way was a beat up half paved road.

didn’t look like the group went on any obstacles challenge, not even the famous V-Rock.
