One of the tricks the scut boys in the JD forums is to purchase and install a second adjustable lift link for the 3 point hitch. Then, with dual wielding adjustable lift links, suck them up on the threads gaining lift height for n attatchments. There’s one on the right for ditch grading and whatnot but having both lets you crank the lift height. At a buck thirty for a second adjustable link I figure I can achieve the same thing by just chopping the stationary link

Howdy all, Got the truck stuck again, the 4wd is definitely not working right. Barely on the sloping ground and it started to spin, got no help from the front end. Last time I was much further down the hill by the tree line facing to the right when I got stuck. With that past experience under my belt, getting it unstuck this time was way easier. Only had to reset the steering wheel a couple of times to get back on safe ground and through the gate.

I'm doubtful it's a control module, but I don't have a clue yet what's wrong. :notsure: The OBD2 reader doesn't see any problems in the computer. The fact that the front wheels are not moving, while the back ones are hasn't thrown an error code yet.:boom: Either I'm an idiot  and it's user error engaging the 4wd, something physical and not electrical is broke, or IDK. :frusty:

I need to lift it off the ground and see what is turning underneath when the 4wd is engaged. Right now I'm just thankful it drives just fine in 2wd. I just have to remember to stay out of the fields until I get it figured out and fixed.

I hope my experience doesn't have the same result. I've always loved the SDs. I've wanted one for decades.

I remember you telling me you were reading the Bible and you figured out Jesus was a Ford man.

Would you like to tell everyone how you figured that out?

They are supposed to be both. They are labeled "auto" and "lock". The first time I got stuck before I flipped the 4wd switch so I manually turned the hubs to lock. This time I engaged the 4wd as I went though the gate into the field. So the auto locking should have had plenty of distance to engage.

Hopefully it's something simple. I was searching online and there are a number of things it could be. One thing listed was a blown fuse for an actuator. That may be the simplest place to start since you've tried the hubs in both positions.

Might be too cold for the solenoid. Did you manually lock them at the hub to confirm you get 4WD?

The first time I did manually lock them and I did not get any power at either wheel. This time I didn't manually turn the hubs or do any additional testing. When things warm backup and dry out, I'll do some testing. I'm going to check the fuses and see watch some YT vids on 4wd issues other people have had. For now it's to damn cold to bother with it.

This is a handy website for info on your fuse boxes. Looks to cover most vehicles for the last 25+ years

I checked the fuses for the 4wd and all were good. Next I think I'll need some warmer/dryer weather. To check for correct vacuum, lift it off the ground and verify the hubs are actually locking or not, is the front driveshaft turning etc.

oh now thats just not right. i was a chevy man for decades... then they went to shit & Ford got me.

ok on F150's(newer) they are auto on the hub. you do still have to engage the switch though.... & yes those switches & the actuator do have a history of going bad.

oh man i love my super dutys. had a bunch of them & for us "farm haulers" they are just hard to beat.

chev's can pull pretty good in the right set up.... but they cant stop what they can pull... without warping the rotors & cooking the brakes.

dodge... well they got a good diesel motor.... but you cant keep the body on them & the brakes are ugh too & they ride crap.

Fords? still tough to beat the ole 7.3 for durability, but im a huge fan of this 6.7 & 6spd set up. They haul, they stop & they ride better when they are empty.

UNLESS its a dually & then it rides like a stagecoach until you get a few tons on it. They will just beat you to death.

everybody has their thing when it comes to trucks. i cant knock the 150's when you do what they are designed for.

but then again i was in a 2025 6.6 gas GMC crewcab yesterday that was pretty friggin sweet!! & it was only $78k~~!!

I can't "like" this, it sucks and it's keeping you from using the truck. Does your ferd use their idiotic vacuum locking hubs? My buddies son has a 2000-something F250 that had that issue, it took 3 of us to scratch our heads to troubleshoot it then fix it.

I'm sure that you know this, but you can set the e-brake to drag just enough to keep the truck from rolling into the tractor while you do the 1 man tow.
